One of the most dangerous animals to hunt in Red Dead Online , the ferocious Sapa-Puma is a predatory big cat that can kill a player in a couple of hits. Here we show you the location of the legendary Sapa Cougar , as well as how to hunt him and what you should do when he opens up.
The Legendary Cougar in Red Dead Online
The legendary Sapa Cougar is native to the southern and western regions of New Austin, from Ridgewood Farm to southern Rio Bravo, as shown in the map below. It won’t spawn on its own, however – you’ll need to reach Naturalist Level 5 and head to Harriet Davenport. One of the missions she can provide you with is to catch the legendary Sapa Puma, and by taking her will take you to a more structured mission where you will be tasked with hunt her down from somewhere in the spawning area noted below.

How to hunt sapa puma
Hunting a Sapa Cougar is more of a structured mission and more of a checklist than a random search (although there are some). We were given a vast area of the New Austin Desert to search, marked on the map in yellow. Search it until you find a poacher’s camp, a camp that will be easier to spot by looking for pilot smoke. Once there, kill the poachers and use the Eagle Eye to find the yellow clue. This will give you a trail that leads to the cougar, although there is a chance that you will encounter more poachers along the way or even shoot the biggest cat itself. Be sure to kill them before you fight the Puma.
Once you come across this, be careful. This black fur cat can kill you with one or two hits and is fast enough to make a deadly shot difficult before it reaches you. Your best bet is to find some kind of high ground that will be difficult to climb – a rock, a roof, a van, and so on. She also has a lot of health – it would take ten or more shots from a sniper rifle to kill him, and easily double that from a sedative pistol. Shooting from a distance will also give you more time to react and prepare before he suddenly steps on you.

Aside from the fact that the process required to find this thing can make someone get bloodthirsty, there’s another good reason to shoot the Sapa Cougar – the skin makes a pretty chic coat, the panther’s head rests on top of your own if you bring the Skin to Gus and paid him money to turn the puma into couture. The downside is that it’s quite expensive – just under a thousand dollars – but if you’ve got the extra cash and a clear lack of panthers on your head, this might be ideal.
