What is the receipt lottery
The receipt lottery is a free lottery linked to the ITALIA CASHLESS program with which the Italian government intends to encourage the use of electronic money (credit cards, debit cards, ATMs, prepaid cards, cards and apps connected to payment circuits) in everyday purchases by increasingly large sections of the population.
The receipt lottery allows citizens to participate in a prize lottery whenever they use electronic money to make certain types of retail purchases.
In this the state has a double advantage: on the one hand it pushes the population to spend in pandemic times, enticing with the prospect of the lottery, and on the other it prevents the possibility of tax evasion by merchants, as transactions must take place obligatorily for traceable means; in this way it is not possible to evade taxes (such as VAT), which instead can be done using cash.
Who is the receipt lottery for?
The receipt lottery is aimed at all persons of legal age (i.e. who are at least 18 years old) who, not acting in the business, have electronic money (credit / debit card) and follow a specific procedure that I will detail at short.
The full amount must be paid cashless, and the payment instrument (the card) must be in your name.
How the receipt lottery works
Now let’s see in detail how the procedure to participate in the lottery works :
- First you have to register on the lotteriadegliscontrini.gov.it site , where you will find a section called “participate now”, just enter your tax code to get a special code that you must always carry with you to participate in the initiative: you can print it or save it on a mobile device.
- Go to a merchant authorized to make a valid purchase (we will talk about it shortly) and present your code: you will receive a ticket for every euro spent, so by hypothesis on a hundred euro you will receive one hundred tickets, up to a maximum of one thousand.
Tickets are fully virtualized, so you won’t receive anything physical. - If the amount spent is less than two euros you will still receive two tickets as long as you have spent at least one euro and fifty.
What purchases are excluded?
Currently, the following types of purchase are excluded :
- Online shopping;
- Cinema, theater, museum tickets;
- Parking tickets for cars / motorcycles;
- Postal shipments;
- Purchase of fuel;
- Purchase by gift card (but not the physical purchase of the gift card, which entitles you to participate);
- Use, even partial, of meal vouchers;
- In the starting phase of the lottery, not even all purchases that require the presentation of the health card, such as those made at pharmacies, are included.
What are the prizes up for grabs
Currently the initiative is still in the running-in phase, so you will find every deadline relating to the draws by connecting to the lotteriadegliscontrini.gov.it site.
Weekly draws are scheduled with 15 prizes of € 25,000 for buyers and as many from 5,000 for merchants;
Monthly draws with 10 prizes of € 100,000 for buyers and 10 of € 20,000 for merchants;
A single annual drawing, on a date to be decided by the Director General of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, with a prize of 5,000,000 for a buyer and 1,000,000 for a merchant.
Weekly draws
The weekly draws will start on Thursday 10 June 2021 between purchases registered by the lottery system from 31 May 2021 to 6 June 2021 by 11:59 pm. Starting from that date, every Thursday the weekly draws will be carried out, for the receipts registered from Monday to Sunday (until 11.59 pm), of the previous week. If the drawing day is a public holiday, the drawing is postponed to the next working day.
Monthly draws
The monthly draws will take place every second Thursday of the month, for receipts registered by the lottery system by 11:59 pm on the last day of the previous month; if the second Thursday of the month coincides with a national holiday, the draw is postponed to the first following working day.
The monthly draws started on Thursday 11 March and reward purchases made in February in cashless mode.

Annual extraction
The annual draw will be at the beginning of 2022 and will reward one of the purchases electronically made between 1 February and 31 December 2021, the draw date has not yet been defined.
