Preparing the classic rice with lentils is one of the ways to make legumes even more tasty
Lentils are a nutritious, tasty and full of benefits for women ! After all, in addition to being extremely rich in iron and folic acid (vitamin B9), it is also a source of fibers , proteins, antioxidants and other minerals such as manganese and potassium. But depending on how you prepare the lentil, it can be even more tasty and healthy. Want to know how? Take a look at our tips!
First, learn how to cook lentils to use in recipes
Cooking lentils is one of the best ways to include food in your daily diet. Once cooked, you can add the legume to rice, salads and various types of recipes. Let’s go step by step!
The first step is to hydrate the lentils so that it does not lose its nutrients during cooking. First, put about 500 g of raw lentils in a bowl full of water (so that the food is completely submerged) and add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to the bowl. Soak the lentils for at least 4 hours.
After that time, drain all the water from the basin and take the lentil to a pressure cooker or to a regular pan. In the pressure cooker, the legumes should cook for approximately 15 minutes (you can sauté a little onion with oil, add the lentils and time). In the common pot, just cover the legume with water and let it cook over high heat until it starts to bubble. The lentil texture must be ‘al dente’! So, try to be aware of that.
After any of the processes, just drain the lentils normally and wash it in cold water to stop cooking.
How about preparing a delicious lentil salad with other grains and vegetables?
With lentils properly cooked, it’s time to use them in recipes! A good tip is to prepare a delicious (and nutritious) salad with the legume + other grains and vegetables of your choice. Tomatoes, colored peppers, raw onions, chickpeas and vegetables such as arugula, spinach and kale combine very well with lentils. Then just season with a drizzle of olive oil, salt and other spices.
Add lentil to rice
This tip everyone knows well. After all, combining lentils with rice is a classic! Just prepare the rice normally (sauté onion and garlic in a pan and cook the rice together until it is very loose), then place it on a platter and add the lentil with a little parsley on top to finish the dish. There’s no mistake!
