Paula Fox

Paula Fox is an American writer and winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Prize . Her literary style has made her one of the most influential and respected American writers in both children’s, young adult and adult literature.

Biographical summary

Paula Fox was born in New York on April 22 , 1923. Abandoned by her parents at birth, Paula’s life was a continuous transit between foster homes and cities in Cuba , the United States , Europe and Canada . After working in various jobs, she became a professor of creative writing and also taught literature at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia . Finally, already in her maturity, she decided to dedicate herself fully to literary creation.

Literary work

He has written more than thirty works ( The Broken Kite , The Dance of the Slaves , The One-Eyed Cat , among others) for children, all of which earned him the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1978 .

His work is completed with six novels for adults, among which we can highlight Desperate Characters , The God of Nightmares , The Widow’s Children and Poor George , all published by El Aleph Editores.

Paula Fox is the author of a previous memoir, Borrowed Elegance , which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and won the New York Times Editor’s Choice Award and the Pen/Martha Albrand Award.

She was also recognized with such important awards as the Newbery Mendal for her historical novel Let the Slaves Dance!
