Outriders: how to fix lag and stuttering in game

Outriders Lag Stutter Fix – This guide will show you how to fix lag and stutter issues on Outriders PC.

Outriders is lagging behind and stuttering for many PC users

It is obvious that Outriders is a AAA title and that it is also completely online. Most of the AAA titles released in recent years have not been without performance issues. Most had horrible performance issues within the first month of their release. Well, unfortunately Outriders suffer the same fate. In the PC version of Outriders, gamers face issues like lag, fps drops, and stuttering. So I decided to list the errors and some solutions for them.

Is your system capable enough to run Outriders?

Before we go any further in the guide, take a look at the different graphics presets in Outriders and what hardware you need for them:

As you can see, you need an AMD Ryzen 5 2600x or something similar along with a GTX 1070 and 16GB of RAM, if you want to achieve those sweet 60fps in Outriders at 1080p resolution. This should give you an idea if your system is capable enough to run Outriders without lag or not.

Are you running the latest graphics drivers specifically optimized for Outriders?

Nvidia has already released a Game Ready driver for Outriders. The version is 465.89 and it was released on 03/30/2021. This new Game Ready driver provides support for the Outriders release, which features NVIDIA DLSS technology. You can download it from here or through GeForce Experience.

AMD has also released an adrenaline driver for Outriders. It’s called Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.3.2. You can download it from here.

Let’s try to fix the delay first

Adjust graphics settings

This is the first thing you should do as soon as you start the game and have access to the Settings menu. I know a lot of people still don’t pay attention to graphics settings in games. But trust me, they should. This is the easiest method to squeeze some extra FPS and performance out of any gaming title.

There is a good chance that there is no problem with your game. And the lag is due to the graphics settings of the game, too high. In that case, follow my guide to Outriders graphics settings. I tested the game on a GTX 1050 ti.

Force the game to run with DX 12 (useful for RTX 30 series users)

This solution was originally suggested by the Steam user. / Prozender . This is what it has to say:

On Steam: Outriders demo -> manage -> properties -> launch option -> type “-force -dx12 ″ in the textbox without the” ”

Many Steam users have already confirmed that this solution works. So you can try this without hesitation.

Your GPU dashboard could help

It’s time to modify the Control Panel settings of your graphics cards. Nvidia users , open Nvidia Control Panel> click ” Adjust Preview Image Settings ” located on the left side under 3D Settings and make sure ” Use Advanced 3D Imaging Settings ” is selected . Now select “Manage 3D Settings” on the left bar and click on the Program Settings tab. Locate Outriders in the drop-down menu under “Select a program to customize.”

For whatever reason, if you don’t see the game listed, click Add and another list will appear, showing all your “Recently Used” apps. Choose Outriders .

If you still cannot detect the game, you must add the .exe file manually. To do that, simply click Browse and go to the folder where you have installed Outriders. Select the executable file or the .exe file, which in this case should be Outriders-Win64-Shipping.exe . Once you have successfully added the game, you will see that the program settings are available for the game. Now modify the following settings: Image
Sharpness: Off
Threading Optimization: Over
Power Management: I prefer maximum performance
Low Latency Mode: Off
Vertical Sync: Off
Texture Filtering – Quality:Performance

AMD users can also do something similar in their control panels. Disable Radeon Anti-Lag, Boost, Anisotropic Filtering, and Frame Rate Target Control. Disable image sharpening, morphological filtering, V-sync, maximum tessellation, OpenGL triple buffering, and Radeon Chill. Set the tessellation mode and shading cache to “AMD optimized” and the anti-aliasing mode and anti-aliasing method to “Use application settings” and “Multisampling” respectively. Set Texture Filtering Quality to “Performance” and “Graphics” GPU workload. Finally, enable the Surface Format Optimization.

For Nvdia laptop users

If you are using a laptop that has a dedicated Nvidia GPU, make sure your laptop is using the dedicated GPU and not the integrated one.

To do that, simply open the Nvidia Control Panel, click on Manage 3D Settings and set ‘ Preferred Graphics Processor ‘ to ‘ High Performance Nvidia Processor ‘. Restart your system.

I assume you are using Discord.

Now, judging by the fact that Outriders is an always-online co-op title, I guess a lot of players are playing it with their friends. And I’m pretty sure they are using Discord as their communication mode. Therefore, it is recommended that you make some adjustments to prevent Discord from reducing the performance of your system.

This is something that I have personally experienced. On my previous gaming rig, which had an RTX 2060 Super, i5 8400, and 16GB of RAM, Discord initially put me through a really tough time. When I regularly played games like Destiny 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019, and Apex Legends. Every time I used to start Discord, online games used to start lagging horribly.

In that case, this is what you should do:

  • Discord launch
  • Go to User Settings
  • Click on Voice and Video on the left sidebar
  • Scroll down to the Advanced section
  • Disable the “OpenH264 Video Codec Provided by Cisco System, Inc.”
  • Disable “Enable packet high priority QoS
  • Click Overlay in the sidebar.
  • Disable in-game overlay
  • Click Appearance in the left sidebar.
  • Scroll down to the Advanced section
  • Disable hardware acceleration
  • Restart Discord

Now let’s talk about the methods to correct stuttering.

Are there apps hogging the CPU in the background?

If you have heavy applications running in the background, there is a possibility that the lag is due to some applications consuming a lot of resources. Just open your Task Manager, select the Processes tab, and click CPU. Make sure the arrow next to you is looking down.

Doing this will bring resource-hungry apps to the top. Look for processes that you don’t need, but are consuming a large chunk of CPU. Right click on them and click “End Task”.

Windows background recording could be a reason

Turn it off by going to the “Games” settings located within the Windows Settings menu. There you should find something called “Captures” on the left. Click on it and disable the background recording feature inside.

Outriders don’t always work well with overlays

Disable all the overlays you have at this time. Overlays from apps like Discord, Nvidia GeForce Experience, Steam, etc. have been known to cause problems in games. So disable them all.

Give them a try for now and let me know in the comment section below whether or not your issues were fixed.
