Nora Ephron

Nora Ephron. Journalist, playwright, screenwriter and successful film director who shined with her own light. Recognized above all as a screenwriter, she was nominated for an Oscar on three occasions for the original scripts of Silkwood and When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle.

Biographical summary

Nora Ephron was born on May 19, 1941 in New York City . She spent her childhood and adolescence in Hollywood where her parents, Phoebe and Henry Ephron, worked as screenwriters. Her sisters Delia, Hallie and Amy are also writers.

Life and work

In 1987 she married the writer Nicholas Pillegi , she was already the mother of two sons, Jacob Bernstein, Max Bernstein, the fruit of a previous marriage with the journalist Carl Bernstein , the same one who uncovered the Watergate scandal with his partner Bob Woodward.

Bernstein’s infidelity inspired the 1986 novel Heartburn , which was later adapted into a film of the same name directed by Mike Nichols and starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep . He has directed films such as Julie & Julia , Michael, You’ve Got Mail and Bewitched .

He also wrote No More Cake and My Bad Cookie. Mixed Nuts was produced by his sister Delia, among others, and starred Steve Martin , Juliette Lewis , and Rob Reiner . His last film was Julie & Julia ( 2009 ), which earned Meryl Streep an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

She also achieved great success with her coming-of-age novel I Feel Bad About My Neck , as well as the play Love, Lost , and What I Wore , written with her daughter.

Oscar nominations

For her brilliant career as a screenwriter, she was nominated for an Oscar three times for the original scripts of Silkwood and When Harry Met Sally (‘ When Harry Met Sally ‘) and Sleepless in Seattle (‘ Sleepless in Seattle ‘).

He also received a Golden Globe nomination for his screenplay for When Harry Met Sally and a Directors Guild of America honorary award in 2003 .

Death

He died on June 26, 2012 at the age of 71 after a long battle with leukemia.
