New Audi RS 6 Avant is much more than a sport station wagon

He spoke of “save the wagons” with Audi. The German brand keeps its wagons alive and always offers fans the sportiness of the RS 4 and RS 6 models, which transform the quiet A4 Avant and A6 Avant into rockets with wheels. The novelty for Brazil is the arrival of the new Audi RS 6, the most brutal representative of the Avant line. A car that enhances the meaning of a sports van.

Few cars combine refinement in technique, the thrill of sportiness and practicality in use like the Audi RS 6 Avant. For no other reason, it costs R $ 793,990 in Brazil (wealthy does not buy, only millionaire). The space in the trunk is 565 liters. Internally, the car is quite spacious, due to the wheelbase it is 2.930 m. This Audi is proof that the old wagon formula can, yes, stay alive in the face of the invasion of high-performance SUVs

The 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine now features a lightweight 48-volt hybrid system to deliver an astonishing 600 hp cavalry. The Audi RS 6 Avant’s proposal is not to be a nervous, thoroughbred sports car that requires a lot of skill behind the wheel, but rather to offer the ultimate in sportsmanship for a family. It is certainly one of the most versatile cars of the brand, in terms of use.

Audi has been betting on this formula for a long time. The first model to arrive in Brazil was the RS 2 Avant, launched in 1994 in a technological partnership with Porsche. In 2005 the RS 4 Avant, with a 4.2 V8 engine, appeared. Three years later, the boldness was even greater, with the launch of the 5-liter 5.0-liter RS 6 Avant V10 biturbo with 580 hp. This car accelerated from 0-100 km / h in 3.6 seconds.

I didn’t need more than that, but Audi went further. In this fourth generation, the Audi RS 6 has become a little more powerful and has become more rigid, as the production process has also evolved. The platform used is the MLB. The suspension is multilink in the front and rear, with pneumatic adjustment. According to Audi, the RS sports suspension reduces body roll in dynamic modes (however, we haven’t been able to try this model yet, due to the coronavirus pandemic).

The acceleration from 0-100 km / h remains 3.6 seconds, as Audi’s focus was to improve the efficiency of the 3996 cm3 V8 engine – hence the adoption of the light hybrid system. The 600 hp is delivered at 6,000 rpm. The impressive torque of 800 Nm is available in its entirety from 2,050 engine turns. The new RS 6 Avant has Tiptronic automatic transmission with an eight-speed torque converter and Quattro all-wheel drive. The maximum speed is 250 km / h.

The beauty of the car remains a highlight. Seen from the outside, the RS 6 Avant is breathtaking, especially for those who suffer from the slow extinction of the wagons. Inside, the console and the panel bring the digital concept, with two large, high-resolution touch-sensitive displays. The top screen is 10.1 ”and features multimedia functions, compatible with Android and iOS. The lower display is 8.6 ”and allows control of comfort functions, in addition to text entry. The instrument panel is also digital (Audi Virtual Cockpit).

To own an Audi RS 6 Avant you need a large garage. The sports van measures 4.995 m long and 1.951 m wide (excluding mirrors). The height, however, is low, only 1,460 m, which further reinforces its sportiness. The tires are 275/35 R21, that is, they are almost the width of a school ruler. Consumption is around 6 km / l in the city and 9.5 km / l on the road, which explains the huge 73-liter tank and Audi’s option for the light hybrid system.
