Mnemonic, a technique to facilitate memory

This paper is a continuation of previous writings on mnemonics . Two mnemonic techniques have been discussed, namely the linked word technique and the acronym technique.

This time we will continue with the third mnemonic technique, the loci technique.

The discussion includes two things, namely the understanding of the mnemonic loci technique and examples of how to use the mnemonic technique of the loci.

Understanding Mnemonic Technique Loci

It was explained earlier that mnemonics are techniques to facilitate memory. There are many mnemonics, two of which are linking methods and acronyms.

Another one of the mnemonic techniques that will be discussed in this paper is the loci technique.

The term loci comes from the Latin, plural locus, meaning location or place.

This loci technique makes use of a place or location already recognized by someone as a means of storing or placing or pasting pieces of information that must be remembered and will be recalled.

The location or place referred to, for example: living room, bedroom, kitchen room, study room, and others. Or even the location of the trip from home to work.

Each of these rooms contains several physical facilities (items) that can be used as a place to store bits of information that must be remembered.

Examples of How to Use the Loci Technique Mnemonic

Prepare bits of information. Important information that must be remembered is collected, recorded in an orderly and orderly manner. For example, there are five pieces of information to remember, namely: bags, watermelons, shoes, clothes, pants.

Select a room as storage. The room chosen, is made effort to contain as many objects as the pieces of information that have been chosen to remember. For this example, let’s say we choose the living room. It is in this living room that the five objects above will be placed.

Place the pieces of information in the space prepared. Because the room chosen is the living room, the five objects or pieces of information above must be placed in this living room.

The art of placing objects or pieces of information is what will help us to recall and recall the information stored in our minds through the above process.

Create a story about placing pieces of information. In order to provide a personal experience, the placement of this object or piece of information must really be done by the person concerned.

First, imagine the living room situation and the objects in it, including the position of the objects in the living room. Next, put the bag in the living room, associate it with the objects in it, for example the chair in the far right corner.

How to put it, on or beside or under a chair. Next take the watermelon, where it is placed, on the seat next to it or beside the bag. Likewise shoes, pants and clothes.

Make sure we really know the situation of the living room and the location of the selected objects. Create visualizations!

Recall the stored information. The next step is to recall the information that has been linked to the object or placed in the guest house.

Let’s first use stories about the placement of objects or information. But what must be ensured is that the five words above are mentioned in the story.

The main purpose of this information recall is that all five pieces of information can be called out all of them.

If all five information, namely bags, watermelon, shoes, clothes, and pants, can be summoned, it means that the goal has been successful.
