Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater All Bosses Guide

In this guide, we’ll explain how to defeat each boss in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (2025), what unique mechanics are used in battle, and why enemies have two scales – health and stamina.

Important : Before reading this material, you should know: due to the nature of the guide and the storyline itself, some key plot points and events of the story will be revealed below, including the names of all the main bosses .

The remake of the cult action Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater contains the most interesting, brutal and extravagant bosses in the entire franchise. Each boss of both the 2004 original and the 2025 reissue has a unique “trick”, which is why players are forced to look for new approaches, tactics, strategies and often use unconventional thinking to interpret game mechanics. Many modern gamers will probably be stumped by such unconventional approaches. There are two options – figure it out yourself or use our tips and recommendations.

In the action game Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater there are a total of 9 bosses, and you will encounter one of them approximately every two to three hours of the game (if you play it at the same pace). At the same time, all bosses can be defeated without a fatal outcome, and special rewards are provided for such “pacifism”. However, the game has an achievement for completing the game without killing, so it is best to combine it with a non-lethal outcome of the battle with the bosses, and the first time experience the battle “at 100”, using other methods of combat.

All Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Bosses in Order

Here are the bosses you’ll face throughout Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s story campaign:

  • Ocelot
  • The Pain
  • The Fear
  • The End
  • The Fury
  • The Sorrow
  • Volgin
  • The Shagohod
  • The Boss

All of these bosses appear in the second part of the game, during Operation Snake Eater, so there is not a single real boss fight in the prologue Mission Virtue. For each boss in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, there are several strategies, including “cheat” options for defeating opponents, allowing you to avoid a bloody and difficult fair fight.

Ocelot

Ocelot is the first major boss you’ll encounter in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The fight takes place in classic Western duel style, with Snake and his opponent occupying opposite sides of a deep trench.

Ocelot constantly moves from cover to cover, firing revolvers on the move. The best time to damage him is when he reloads his weapon. He often does this in open areas. Additionally, you can use grenades or captured animals to lure him out of cover and force him to go out into the open.

There are also beehives hanging from the trees that you can shoot to stun Ocelot. He may try to retaliate by shooting the beehive above Snake’s head. Use Bug Juice at these times to protect yourself from the hornets/wasps. If you need healing items or ammo, crawl along your side of the arena to find more resources. You can also climb a tree on the right side to get a better position to shoot Ocelot in cover. However, doing so will put you out of cover yourself.

If you defeat Ocelot without killing him using a non-lethal weapon, you will receive the Animals Camo uniform as a reward.

The Pain

You’ll encounter Pain shortly after the duel with Ocelot. The boss, who can control swarms of hornets, can be a real pain, but there are a few simple tricks to deal with him. First, you can use Bug Juice to reduce the effectiveness of his hornets.

The main strategy for fighting Pain is to dive underwater so that he loses sight of you, then appear behind him and shoot from a safe position. During the fight, Pain will periodically protect himself with bee armor, which can be destroyed with enough shots. Direct combat is dangerous, as the boss will respond with bee swarm attacks. Sometimes he will create copies of himself, so keep an eye on everyone and look for the real enemy.

Grenades are not worth using: although they seem like an effective way to destroy the bee armor, Pain can command his hornets to intercept the grenade and return it to Snake. Halfway through the fight, the enemy starts using “bullet bees” – if they touch you, they deal continuous damage until you remove them via the “Heal” menu. Luckily, removing them only requires a knife, so you don’t have to waste valuable healing resources.

Defeating Pain non-lethally by draining his stamina will grant you the Hornet Stripes Camo form.

The Fear

Fear is the second member of the Cobra Squad you encounter in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. He jumps from tree to tree and shoots at Snake with a crossbow, using only poison rounds. The fight can be difficult if not properly prepared, but the right equipment makes it much easier.

Immediately after the battle begins, open the Heal menu to remove the poison bolt and neutralize the poison. It is fearful to continue firing poison shells, so if you get hit, simply repeat the process.

The enemy will get tired periodically and will come down to the ground to look for food. Instead of shooting, try throwing poisonous or rotten food for him to pick up.

Fear will be jumping between branches for most of the fight, so keep your camera up and don’t let him down or lose sight of him. Thermal vision will completely negate his stealthy movement, so equip it if you have one. Don’t forget about the traps set up throughout this section of the forest – watch out for tripwires and keep shooting when you see an enemy on a branch.

Defeating Fear non-lethally by reducing the stamina bar will unlock the Spider Camo form.

The End

The End is the third member of the Cobra Squad you’ll encounter in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and this fight is significantly different from the previous ones. Instead of actual bullets, The End shoots tranquilizer darts at you, and if you lose consciousness due to running out of stamina, you’ll be sent back to Granina Gorka’s prison block.

The fight with The End takes place across three separate sections of Sokrovenno, and the enemy is constantly moving around the forest, choosing new positions for precision sniping. So the key to victory is to spot him before he does. If you hear The End start talking or see the glint of his scope, run for cover.

The Survival Viewer map shows all possible positions from which The End can fire sniper shots.

The best way to defeat The End is to stay crouched and in the grass while using your Thermal Scope and Directional Mic to locate him. Once you spot him, fire your SVD or try to sneak up on him and use another weapon. If you get close enough, The End can be tackled like a regular guard. If successful, he will drop the Moss Camo uniform.

When The End moves to a new sniping position, he leaves behind tracks that lead to him. Thermal imaging makes them much brighter, so you can easily track the enemy, but if you look closely, they can be seen with the naked eye. Just don’t confuse them with Snake’s tracks!

If you defeat The End non-lethally by reducing his stamina, you will be rewarded with his Mosin rifle, which shoots tranquilizer rounds. It is one of the best weapons in the game! We also have a guide explaining how to defeat The End before the real fight begins .

The Fury

Rage is encountered after completing the mountains and the famous long stair climb in the second half of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It’s another game of hide and seek, but Rage is much more aggressive than The End.

The fight takes place in a narrow, dim row of concrete sections. Fury patrols each passage, using a flamethrower and jetpack, moving from one end of the arena to the other. If Fury spots Snake, a fire will erupt near the hero within seconds.

To avoid his attacks, roll through gaps in the walls and move between passages. Stay low and use appropriate camouflage to avoid being seen. Thermal vision will help you see Fury from afar, but the fire makes it difficult. You can shoot the red water pipes on the ceiling to put out the fire.

If you get close enough and stab him, you’ll rip his suit and he’ll take more damage from all sources.

Due to the power of the flamethrower, it is better to shoot 2-3 times and then retreat. If you play too much, you will be engulfed in flames quite quickly, especially if Fury has already set fire to other parts of the arena. There are also explosive barrels in the arena – they can be detonated, causing massive damage to the enemy. Continue to act from ambush, and Fury will soon be defeated.

If you do this non-lethally, by lowering your stamina bar, you will get the Fire Camo form.

The Sorrow

Grief is one of the more unusual bosses you’ll encounter in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This is because the fight against him doesn’t involve direct confrontation. Instead, you’ll be floating down a river and encountering the ghosts of people you’ve killed before.

If you played without killing, this will be a short swim. Otherwise, the river will be much longer. There are practically no gameplay mechanics in this fight – just move along the water, dodging the ghosts. Your weapons do not work on them, so shooting is pointless.

Grief will occasionally shoot a ghostly beam. Dodge it by going underwater for a few seconds. At the end of the river, you’ll see Grief’s body. Touch it – Snake will die. Instead of continuing, use the Revive Pill from your inventory to resurrect and finish the “boss fight”.

As a reward for completing the River of Woe, you will receive the Spirit Camo uniform.

Colonel Volgin

The fight with Colonel Volgin is difficult, as you will be trapped in a small room with him, and his electrical abilities will neutralize most of your weapons. You will have to rely on proper positioning to deal damage, and take into account the fact that you only have a few minutes before the complex explodes.

Volgin is damaged from both the sides and from behind by bullets, so wait for him to perform an electric attack and stand still, then flank him. If you get close enough, you can perform a CQC move to knock Volgin down and deal significant damage.

If Raikov’s mask is used in this fight, Volgin will be confused and vulnerable to attacks for a few seconds.

During the fight, Volgin will yell at Ocelot several times – this is your chance to deal extra damage. He will also occasionally recharge his powers at the electrical panel in the corner of the arena. Shoot him when his back is turned to deal damage without retaliation.

If you constantly dodge his repeated electric attacks and use CQC moves to take him down, the fight won’t be as difficult as it looks. Use Snake’s combat rolls as much as possible to avoid damage. You can also lie on the ground to hide from most of Volgin’s attacks.

If you defeat Volgin non-lethally by lowering his stamina bar, you will be rewarded with the Cold War Camo uniform.

Shagohod

The battle with Shagohod takes place towards the end of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It’s a long confrontation, divided into several stages, and in the early sections you can do almost nothing. The chase is completely scripted – focus on shooting the guards while you’re in control of Eva.

At the end, you will enter an arena for a one-on-one duel with Shagoghod. Eva will drive around the arena, and your task is to use an RPG to disable the tank’s treads. When the tank becomes immobile, shoot the central core to cause significant damage. After you have caused enough damage, Volgin will emerge from the tank, and a second battle against the colonel will begin.

Next, Eva will distract Volgin, and you will move on foot. The plan of action remains the same: destroy the tracks with an RPG and shoot at Volgin with an SVD or any other weapon.

If Volgin attacks you instead of Eva, move to the side to avoid damage. He will also periodically fire missiles that can be destroyed with precision shots from most weapons before they reach Snake. You cannot complete this fight non-lethally, so there is no additional reward. In general, use your favorite weapon.

The Boss

The Boss is the final opponent of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It’s another game of hide and seek, but the Boss is far more dangerous than all the previous opponents.

The battle takes place on a field of white flowers, so use the Snow Camo form to remain as stealthy as possible. You can only damage the Boss when she can’t see you, so crawl through the flower field until she loses sight of you, and attack when the opportunity arises. If you hit the Boss enough times, she’ll fall to the ground, giving you a chance to reposition yourself.

There are three snakes with unique names crawling around the arena, located near the logs. If you can’t spot them, use a thermal imager.

If the Boss sees Snake, he immediately rushes into a CQC grab. It is impossible to dodge such an attack, but you can parry by pressing the CQC button at the moment of impact to avoid damage. If the Boss attacks you with a weapon in his hands, he will destroy it and zero out all the ammunition – when you have the opportunity, do not forget to pick up the weapon back.

To defeat the Boss, continue to move stealthily through the flower field, using your thermal scope and directional microphone to track her location. The Boss often lingers near trees, and white flower petals fly up as she moves. There is a time limit on the fight, but it is generous enough that you don’t have to rush in headlong.

If you defeat the Boss in a non-lethal manner, you will receive the Snake Camo form.

After defeating the Boss, you’ll complete the storyline of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. But the game still offers plenty of interesting post-story content, including the return of the Snake vs. Monkey minigame and the Fox Hunt multiplayer mode.
