Man Can Marry Four – And Women?

Table of Contents

Islam gives the man permission to marry four wives. Why can’t a woman have four husbands?

First, it is important to keep in mind that Islam has come to establish two very important foundations for human beings:

Rights and Limits

Everything and everyone has certain rights that are attributed to them by the Creator and Sustainer of the universe (Allah). At the same time, each creation has its own limitations set by God.

First Right – God has the right to be worshiped without assigning partners to what He Himself created. Direct worship to Him, only.

Second Law – The Prophet’s right ﷺ to be followed according to his teachings and commandments.

Third Right – Parents’ rights to be honored and cared for, with special emphasis on the mother first.

Fourth Right – wives and husbands have rights to each other.

More than 1,400 years ago

Now let’s do some basic research here. We started by examining the condition of women in various societies at the time, 1400 years ago, when God revealed the Holy Quran to Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him).

Pagan Arabs – Burying Living Girls

During that time, pagan Arab men used to bury their newborn daughters in the sand, out of shame for having something as low and disgusting as a girl instead of a son. Women were treated horribly and with absolute disgust.

Men could marry as many women as they wished and often had spouses like cattle or sheep. There were no laws to protect women and they had no rights.

Christians – Arguing Whether Women Had Souls

Christians at that time were holding council meetings to determine whether or not a woman had a soul. The church blamed “Eve” the mother of all human beings after Adam for “original sin” and condemned her and her seed for what she had done.

Priests – Best Men – Forbidden Marriage – Any Woman

Priests, bishops, cardinals and even the Pope are the best Catholic men within the church. However, the church still forbids its clergy the chance of marriage and families. This unnatural situation has caused very serious ramifications across society around the world.

Nuns – Best Women – No Marriage – No Children

Nuns are the best Catholic women. They take care of appropriate clothing in the same way as Muslim women. However, they are never allowed to marry or have children throughout their lives. This unnatural condition has caused an incalculable number of unpleasant and shameful practices within the church itself.

If Only Bad People Have Children – What about tomorrow?

We must ask the question: “If the best men and women cannot marry or have children, does that mean that only the worst people are allowed to reproduce and populate the world? ”- And where will this take us tomorrow?

Jews – Guilty and Cursed Women

The Jews blamed women for “original sin” and, as such, were treated with disgust. A woman’s menstrual cycle was considered by the Old Testament of the Bible to be a “curse of God” for its inequalities. Her son, who was in pain, was also a “punishment from God”, for the woman having made the man expelled from heaven.

Islam – No Blame on Women for Evil

Islam does not blame Eve for Adam’s sin. Each of them accepted their own error and repented before God, and asked God to forgive them and God forgave them.

Now, before going any further, read Surah An Nisa (chapter 4 in the Quran) – to the end, to better understand what is really being said about women, men and marriage.

Read the Holy Quran

Now, let’s reflect on the verses. Do you believe that God knows what He created and He revealed perfect belief? Do you know the condition of people when the request came to restrict the number of wives? (Restricted to only four)

Now read the verse about having more than one wife, very carefully

“If you fear being unfair in your dealings with orphans, you can marry two, three or four of the ones you like, among women. But if you fear that you cannot be fair to them, then marry one… ”[Holy Quran 4: 3]

What does this say? And what do you understand about that?

Now read the verse that forbids men to marry women who are already married.

“It is also forbidden for you to marry married women, except those you have at hand. Such is the law that God imposes on you. However, outside of the aforementioned, you are allowed to search, armed with your goods, chaste and non-licentious wives … ”[Holy Quran 4:24]

Now read Surah (Chapter) An Nisa on the role of men and women.

“Men are the protectors of women, because God endowed them with more (strength) than the others, and for their support of their savings. Good wives are devotees, who keep, in their (husband’s) absence, the secret that God has commanded to be kept… ”[Holy Quran 4:34]

Men must support and protect women

Do you understand that it is necessary to assume the role of supporter, protector, provider, guardian and servant of the family (role of man)?

Woman gives birth – Raises children

It is necessary to assume the role of carrying the child to have him and, later, to feed and educate him to become a true servant of God (woman’s role).

Not Equal – But Justly Treated in Justice

Men and women are not similar or “equal”, as some people want to believe. Whatever is on one side of something “equal” must be exactly the same as what is on the other side without any difference in value, just in the way it is expressed. How, then, can we say that a man who is unable to conceive or give birth and then breastfeed a baby is the same as a woman who can?

Equal in Faith and Actions

They are equal in their beliefs and good deeds, of course. But they are not yet the same. Each must fulfill his role as a human.

Protected children’s rights

Islam is also very much about rights. Children also have rights in Islam. When a man dies, his wealth is left to his family. How could the court know who to give a man’s wealth to, if he were one of several husbands for a wife? How would a child know who his father is? No society has ever supported the concept of a woman married to two or more men at the same time.

Women’s Rights – Best Treatment

Almost all societies supported the concept of a man with more than one woman. However, they did not limit the number or provide protection and maintenance that Islam insists on each one. Islam has become fair. Women were given rights. Men were strictly ordered to treat their women with the best treatment.

Limit – Number in Marriage

When the verse was revealed, Muhammad’s companions ﷺ did not put an end to the attitude that they suddenly had four wives. Some of them already had much more than that and these men had to divorce their wives if they had more than four. So, this was not an order to go out and have four wives. It was an order to begin the limitations. And the first limitation was; No more than four.

Limit – Equal Maintenance and Treatment

Second, the limitation of equal treatment for all of them. How could a man keep more than one wife, unless he was able financially and physically? Then, the limitation clearly states;

“… but if you fear that you can’t deal with them, then just one …”

Muslims Today – More Monogamous

In most of all Muslim homes on earth, a man usually marries once, with a woman, and then remains married to her until the death of himself or his wife. Research this phenomenon and let reality speak for itself.

A Woman’s Right To Choose Any Husband She Likes – Even If He’s Already Married

A very important point that is often overlooked by modern society is the right that Islam has given to women that it does not give to men. A man is limited to marrying only the woman who is not yet married. This obviously provides rights for children and provides them with the father’s inheritance.

But Islam also allows women to marry a man who is already married to protect her in a society where the number of women exceeds the population of men. In addition, the woman has a large selection of men to choose from. In fact, she has the right to choose between any man in the community, as long as he does not yet have four wives.

She also has the opportunity to see how the other wife was being treated and enter a marriage, knowing exactly what to expect from her husband. After all, he must treat her the same way he is treating the other wife.

Women Need Husbands – Allah Provided the Answer

The prophet ﷺ predicted that, in the last days, women would outperform men to a great extent. Today, we are seeing this becoming a reality around the world. Allah has already provided us for this occasion.

After all, He is the One who makes everything happen and He already knew that many women would go to Islam these days. He also knew that many of the Muslim men would be killed or die at an early age, just as it is happening today. These women need husbands. God has given us the solution to all of life’s problems.

Women’s Voting Rights – 1,400 years ago

We may add that Islam also gave women citizen status more than 1,400 years ago, giving them the right to speak and vote the same as anyone else. American women had to take their causes to the streets with “Women’s Suffrage” and did not receive the right to vote until just 90 years ago.

Women Maintain Their Identity – And Their Names

In addition, Islam protected the rights of women to maintain their identity and were not considered the property of any man. As such, they were no longer forced to change their surnames to be that of their husbands. This is still the practice of Muslim women today, as it was fourteen hundred years ago.

Women Maintain Their Property and Earnings – Men Must Share

However, at the same time, Western society is so concerned with how Islam requires a couple to be married, the man really should work instead of the woman; the woman owns her own property without giving anything for the support of the house or the child; a child has the right of its own mother to raise them instead of a nanny or daycare; the father must support the children; divorce is hated; and marriage is sanctified.

The West Cannot Tolerate Man and Woman – In Marriage

It’s strange, isn’t it, a society like America, it’s okay to accept sex without marriage; homosexuality; same-sex marriages; sex without responsibility; children without parents; and divorces are a more common place than measles or chickenpox. However, there is no tolerance for marriage between a man and a woman if it is not on your terms.

Islam gives the man permission to marry four wives. Why can’t a woman have four husbands?

First, it is important to keep in mind that Islam has come to establish two very important foundations for human beings:
