Keyboard shortcuts for YouTube
Those who use this platform every day know and use a number of keyboard commands that help them save time when browsing YouTube . Most of the users know that by simply pressing the spacebar on the keyboard, they can pause and resume playing a video. But, YouTube has several such shortcuts which are very useful and which you may not have known. By simply combining some keys, users can enjoy a pleasant experience. I have prepared the most important and useful functions in a list, below.
For example, if you hover over the “Full Screen” icon, you’ll see “Full Screen (f)”. This tells you that you can press the “f” key to switch to “Full Screen” mode. You can also use the “SHIFT+?” command. When you hover over certain buttons in the player you will be able to see certain relevant keyboard shortcuts.
k – Play/Pause in player.
m – Mute video on/off.
Middle stop key on keyboard – Stop.
Next song media key – Skips to the next song in the playlist
Left/Right arrow on search bar – Rewind/forward 5 seconds.
j – Rewind 10 seconds in the playlist.
l – Fast forward 10 seconds in the player.
Period (.) sign – While the video is paused, skip to the next frame.
Comma (,) – While the video is paused, skip to the previous frame.
Greater than sign (>) – Speeds up the playback rate of the video.
The “lesser” sign (Slows down the playback rate of the video.
Scrollbar Home/End Keys – Scroll to the first/last seconds of the video
Scrollbar up/down arrow – Increase/decrease the volume by 5%.
Numbers 1-9 on the scroll bar (not on the numeric keypad) – Scrolls from 10% to 90% of the video.
Number 0 on the scroll bar (not on the numpad) – Scroll to the beginning of the video.
/ – Access the search box.
f – Enables Full Screen mode. If Full Screen mode is enabled, press F or Esc again to exit Full Screen mode.
c – Enable subtitles, if available. To hide the subtitles press the c key again.
Shift+n – Skip to next video (If you’re watching a playlist, you’ll skip to the next video in the playlist. If not, you’ll skip to the next suggested YouTube video.
Shift+p – Go back to the previous video. The shortcut only works if you’re watching a playlist.
i – Open the Miniplayer
