Jiyan from Wuthering Waves – Character Guide and Build

The developers of Wuthering Waves took a risky path for gacha games and released Jiyan (a male character) as the first event hero, given that they usually sell worse than female ones. But even so, the game gained popularity among players and confidently holds the top five gachas in sales.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at Jiyan, learn how to build him, and what echo options are suitable. And if you don’t know anything at all and are just starting to understand the game, read our guide for beginners .

About the character

Jiyan is the general of the Midnight Knights who guard Jinzhou and constantly fight monsters called Tacet Discord . He joined the military at a young age and served as a doctor, taking care of the wounded.

Jiyan’s ability to remain calm and take care of his soldiers soon led to him becoming a general in the army. With his resonator powers, he can use the Aero element in battle and summon the azure dragon Qing Long to fight alongside him and attack multiple opponents at once.

How to get

Like other gacha games, limited legendaries in Wuthering Waves are only available to players during their own banner. So Jiyan was only available in the first half of 1.0. There is no word yet on reruns, but they will most likely happen.

Judging by another Kuro Games game, Punishing: Gray Raven, hero reruns happen a couple of months/patches after the hero’s release, so you can have time to save up some astrit for both Jiyan himself and his weapon.

Recommended stats

Since Jiyan plays the main damage dealer of the pack, it is important for him to collect good stats. Let us note right away that you should not rejoice at the 150% critical damage indicator for Wuthering Waves characters, if you compare the system with the same Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, it turns out that in fact these 150% are equal to 50% in games from Hoyoverse.

So, the optimal stats for Jiyan at level 90 look something like this:

  • 2000-2500 attack power;
  • 40-70% Aero damage;
  • 70% critical hit chance;
  • 230-250% critical damage;
  • 12000-15000 HP;
  • 1200-1500 protection.

If you have problems with the accumulation of the ult, you can also look in the echo stats for Energy Regen (energy recovery speed). An indicator of 125-140% will cover all your needs. Well, and if you have supports, and you often switch, then 115-125% will be enough.

Capabilities

Since the combat system of Wuthering Waves is inspired by slashers and souls-likes, in addition to the main attacks, the characters have different combos and special moves. For convenience, we have collected everything in tables and described the principle of action of all the blows.

Basic attacks

Ability name Ability type Description
Lone Lance Basic Attack / Basic Attack Deals up to 5 quick spear strikes with Aero damage.
Heavy Attack / Heavy Attack Spends a small amount of stamina and takes a step towards the enemy, performing an Aero-elemental attack.

There are also two special attacks: Windborne Strike and Abyssal Slash.

Windborne Strike : If you hold down the button while performing a heavy attack, Jiyan will perform a special attack that launches the enemy into the air.

Abyssal Slash : If you release the button before the combo ends while performing a heavy attack, Jiyan will perform a slashing attack on the enemy.

Mid-air Attack Consumes a small amount of stamina and performs an aerial strike with his spear. Upon landing, it deals area damage.

Banner of Triumph’s special attack is triggered if Jiyan activates E while in mid-air, or if you press attack in mid-air after knocking the enemy up with Windborne Strike.

Windquell Resonance Skill / E-shka Dashes forward, dealing Aero damage to enemies with his spear. When 1 or 2 bars are filled, Forte Circuit performs a powerful strike during the skill.
Emerald Storm: Prelude Resonance Liberation / Ulta After using his ultimate, Jiyan summons the azure dragon Qing Long and enters Qingloong Mode.

While Qingloong Mode is active , Interrupt Resistance is increased and Basic, Heavy, and Counter attacks are replaced with Lance of Qingloong’s enhanced Heavy Attacks.

Lance of Qingloong consists of a combo of 3 attacks that can be performed infinitely, with all attacks counted as heavy attacks and can automatically parry enemy attacks.

Qingloong at War Forte Circuit / Resonance Scale / Energy The scale can accumulate up to 60 points (2 divisions) maximum. They are collected during combat when hitting with basic attacks. If Jiyan has not hit anyone within 15 seconds after the last strike, the scale begins to decrease.

When performing E-Shki, if Jiyan has 30 (1 bar) or more Energy, the skill is increased by 20%. Energy is not consumed if the character is in Qingloong Mode.

When using the Ultimate, if Jiyan’s gauge is filled to 30 or more, he will use one bar to use the Emerald Storm: Finale attack , creating a small storm on the field. This can also be used while jumping in the air.

Tactical Strike Intro Skill / Intro kick When switching to Jiyan from another character, he performs a Tactical Strike attack, striking enemies from the air with his spear.
Discipline Outro Skill / Outro strike When you switch from Jiyan to another character, he will perform a Discipline attack: when the selected hero’s heavy attack hits an enemy, the azure dragon Qing Long will appear on the field, dealing Aero damage along with the active character.

Passive skills

Skill name Skill Description
Heavenly Balance After using Tactical Strike, Jiyan increases his own attack power by 10% for 15 seconds.
Tempest Taming If the attack hits the target, critical damage is increased by 12% for 8 seconds.
Skillful Cooking Has a small chance to create a special dish when cooking.

Priority of pumping

As you can see, leveling up abilities in Wuthering Waves is not cheap, so you need to know exactly what to focus on in order to get the maximum profit from your character and not spend all your savings.

First of all, Jiyan pumps Resonanse Liberation – this is his ult and the most priority ability, which deals a huge amount of damage. The second priority is Forte Circuit. This is an energy scale that accumulates during the fight. Resonance Skill, that is, the hero’s E, is of equal importance. Well, and lastly, we pump the basic attack and Intro Skill.

Weapons for Jiyan

Name Base stat Characteristics Description
Verdant Summit Critical Damage: 10.8–48.6% Increases the damage bonus of all Resonance attributes by 12-24%. Each time Intro Skill or Ultimate is activated, Heavy Attack damage is increased by 24-48%. This effect lasts for 14 seconds and can stack up to 2 times. Jiyan’s signature sword works best on him and allows him to deal a lot of damage with his ult and E, and also buffs his heavy attacks, which is useful during skill cooldowns.

Can be obtained with 100% chance from the banner.

Lustrous Razor Attack Power: 8.1–36.4% Grants 12.8–25.6% energy regeneration speed. After using E, the ultimate’s damage is increased by 7–14%. The bonus stacks up to 3 times and lasts for 12 seconds. A good option if you have problems with the accumulation of Jiyan’s ult, but you will not be able to fully realize the damage bonus from E-shek.
Autumntrace Critical Hit Chance: 4.5–20.3% When hit by a normal or heavy attack, the wearer’s attack power is increased by 4-12.8%. The bonus stacks up to 5 times and lasts for 7 seconds. A great “four” for damage dealers, but with a nuance: this is a weapon from a paid battle pass. If you purchased it, you can get it as a reward for level 30.
Helios Cleaver Attack Power: 6.8–30.4% After activating E, the wearer’s attack power increases by 3-6% and stacks every 2 seconds. Maximum bonus: 12-24%.

Once the stacks reach 12, the bonus will reset and the count will start over.

A decent sword to get from gacha if you have no other options. Works well on any damage dealer.
Guardian Broadblade Attack Power: 5.4–24.3% Basic and Heavy Attacks deal 12-24% more damage. The best starting sword for Jiyan if you’re just starting out and have no other options.

Which Echo to install?

Let’s start with sets. A character has 4 slots where you can put up to 5 Echo variants. They can be from the same set or from 2 different ones if you have good stats. Each Echo has its own “cost” (COST), and a character can have 12 points in total, so a sample build would include one Echo of cost 4, 2 Echoes of cost 3 and 2 Echoes of cost 1.

Remember that you can farm Echo by fighting monsters in the world, clearing Tacet Field with the elements you need, or defeating weekly and world bosses. And don’t forget to pump Data Bank, it’s important for you to start getting creatures of rarity 5.

The stat priority for Jiyan looks something like this: 4 COST is critical damage or critical hit chance, 3 COSTs go both to Aero damage or one goes to energy recovery speed, and 1 COST always goes to %ATK. In the lower stats, of course, we look for critical damage and chance, as well as %ATK and energy recovery.

Sierra Gale

The Sierra Gale set is best for Jiyan – 2 pieces give 10% Aero damage, and 5 pieces give another 30% Aero damage for 15 seconds after activating Intro Strike. In this case, we put Feilian Beringal Boss Echo (4 COST) on the first slot .

When transformed into it, we perform two attacks that deal 231.94% and 283.36% Aero damage. Echo also gives a 12% increase to Aero damage and heavy attacks for 15 seconds if we managed to perform two hits.

Lingering Tunes

The second option is the Lingering Tunes attack set . Two pieces of the set provide 10% attack power, and 5 pieces increase this stat by 5% every 1.5 seconds when the character is on the battlefield (up to 4 stacks).

If this set is taken, the first slot is occupied by Flautist (3 COST). When transformed, we attack with the Electro beam up to 10 times. Each of the blows deals 53.2% damage and gives 1 unit of energy for hitting the enemy.

2+2 combo

If you don’t have a full set with good stats, you can always build a 2+2 combo. Let’s look at a few options.

In the first case, we combine Sierra Gale and Lingering Tunes . This way we get 10% Aero damage and attack power. In this case, we put Feilian Beringal or Flautist on the first slot .

The second option is a combination of  Sierra Gale and Moonlit Clouds . In this build, the sets will give 10% Aero damage and 10% energy recovery speed. And in the first slot there is Feilian Beringal .

Well, the third option will work if you don’t have an Aero set at all. In this case, we take Lingering Tunes and Moonlit Clouds . We get 10% attack power and energy recovery speed. Flautist or Feilian Beringal goes on the first slot , if it is possible to put it.

Commands for Jiyan

The character pool is quite limited right now because the game is new, so there are only three team options. Let’s look at them below.

The first option is hypercarry Jiyan. This team is suitable for passing the Tower, or fast battles in the open world, where you will receive almost no damage. It is advisable to put Aalto here, since he gives a bonus to Aero damage, but you can think about the second support.

The squad is recruiting:

  • Jiyan;
  • Aalto;
  • Jianxin/Yangyang/Mortephy/Sanhua.

The second option is a team with a healer. This option can be used to score bosses or to complete battles in Tactical Hologram. This way, your characters will live longer and will be able to withstand protracted battles without any problems. This squad is also great for beginners, because you can put free Yangyang and Baizhi.

This pack contains:

  • Jiyan;
  • Yangyang/Aalto/Mortefi/Sanhua;
  • Baizhi/Verina.

Well, the third option is two DDs. Here we focus on damage, so the support should help not only Jiyan. In general, there are quite a few options for the pack.

Here are the heroes you can take:

  • Jiyan;
  • Calharo/Taoqi/Rover Spectro;
  • Jiangxin/Sanhua/Mortephy.

Resonance circuit

Chain number Name Description
1 Benevolence Allows you to reuse the E-class by spending 15 units of the Forte Circuit gauge.
2 Versatility When the Intro skill is activated, Jiyan’s Forte Circuit gauge fills by 30 points and he gains 28% attack power for 15 seconds. The chain effect occurs once every 15 seconds.
3 Spectacle After using E, ult or Intro skill for 8 seconds, critical hit chance increases by 16% and critical damage by 32%.
4 Prudence When activating a normal or enhanced Ultimate, all allies gain 25% bonus Heavy Attack damage for 30 seconds.
5 Resolution The outro skill deals 120% more damage. When hitting an enemy, Jiyan gains 3% attack power – this bonus stacks up to 15 times and lasts for 8 seconds.
6 Fortune When using E, Heavy Attack or Intro Skill, Jiyan gains 1 stack of Momentum (2 stacks total). When the enhanced Ultimate is activated, Momentum is consumed and increases the damage of Azure Dragon Qing Long’s attacks by 120% for each stack.

Our introduction to General Jiyan has come to an end, and now you know how to best assemble him. And if you didn’t manage to pick up the hero during the banners, don’t be sad, because there will be a rerun soon.
