International Federation of Rowing Societies. Known by its acronym as FISA , it is the international organization that is dedicated to regulating the rules in rowing events at a competitive level in the world, as well as regularly holding competitions and events. It is based in Lausanne , Switzerland . The acting president, in 1989 , is the Swiss Denis Oswald.

History
It was founded on June 25 of the 1892 in Turin , Italy represented by France , Switzerland , Belgium , Adriatic and Italy and as first president was the Canadian Les McDonald.
In 1893 the first European Rowing Championship was held in Orta , Italy with 10 entries in 3 events.
FISA is the first international sports federation to join the Olympic movement ( IOC ) in 1896 and due to inclement weather the rowing events were canceled at the I Olympic Games .
In the II Olympic Games the first Olympic rowing tournament is held .
In 1922 , FISA is established in Lausanne , Switzerland .
In 1962 , FISA held the first edition of the World Rowing Championships in Lausanne , Switzerland .
The Olympic rowing program introduced light event categories for the first time at the XVI Olympic Games , individual women must not weigh more than 59kg, the average crew weight can be no more than 57kg, while individual men must not weigh more than 72.5kg, the average weight of the crew can be no more than 70kg.
