The best way to immigrate to Canada in 2021 is to take advantage of one of the labor or educational programs. Educational presupposes admission to the magistracy in higher educational institutions of the country. The procedure is not the easiest and rather expensive one. Therefore, many prefer work programs – many graduates with excellent knowledge of English (and / or French) and work experience Canada will welcome with open arms.
Of course, in the absence of obstacles in the form of an outstanding criminal record, being under investigation and others. What are the most popular professions, which program can you use and how to calculate your chances of successful immigration? More on this later.

Immigration to Canada in 2020
You can start official work in a new country only after obtaining an immigration visa or citizenship (which, of course, is far from most potential immigrants).
The process is complex, but clearly regulated and quite feasible. The IRCC is responsible for issuing visas and executing federal programs. According to the statements of Minister Ahmed Hussen, in 2020 it is planned to set record limits for the admission of migrants – 310 thousand people. The quota has never been so large. Moreover, at least until 2020, the quota will be increased. This means that tens of thousands of people will increase their chances of successful immigration and will be able to obtain a residence permit.
Canada is waiting for labor migrants and, first of all, needs highly qualified specialists with work experience. Waiters, cleaners and representatives of other professions of category D (we will talk about the gradation below) also have chances of getting a visa, but they are significantly lower. In addition to the federal ones, there are also provincial immigration programs – with a sufficient level of knowledge of English or French, with the necessary amount of money and in the absence of obstacles, almost everyone can apply for a visa.
New in Express Entry
Express Entry is a program that is essentially a selection system for qualified personnel. In addition to qualifications, it takes into account a number of other factors that assess a candidate’s potential ability to adapt to living in Canada. The system assumes a rating selection with the expression of assessments in points. At the same time, there is no “passing” score as such – it directly depends on the results of other candidates. Usually the minimum is 460-480 points, the maximum is 1200 points. The assessment takes place within the framework of a system that takes into account many factors and evaluates:
- Work experience and professional skills.
- Proficiency in English and / or French.

Recently, some changes have been made to Express Entry. In particular, additional points began to be awarded for education in Canada (the number of points depends on the educational program and the duration of study) and for an invitation to work in most specialties. Additional points can also be earned for good knowledge of the French language. This is the second state language in the country and such a move is clearly aimed at increasing the French-speaking population. Otherwise, a lot depends on the immigration program.

Immigration programs to Canada
As of 2020, 3 federal immigration programs continue to operate in the country. Each of them is focused on candidates of certain groups. Accordingly, each program has specific requirements for applicants.
- FSWP– Basic Immigration Program. Designed for candidates who are outside the Canadian state border. This program is aimed at highly qualified specialists who know English or French perfectly, have proven work experience in a qualified specialty from 1 year or more, and can also confirm the presence of education. In this case, education must be confirmed by WES, ICAS or another accredited organization.
- FSTP– This program offers special immigration conditions for qualified professionals who have worked in Canada for at least 1 year. Important: the work must be legal, full-time. The chances of participating in the program will be significantly higher if your employer issues an official invitation to work. It is also important to remember about the need to confirm a high level of language proficiency.
- CEC– This program is aimed at candidates who are representatives of working specialties. First of all, those that are already working in Canada. Work experience must be at least 2 years (only the last 5 years are taken into account), professional skills will require confirmation. As well as knowledge of the language. In the absence of a qualification certificate, an invitation to work will be required.
In addition, provincial programs continue to operate in the country, under which each region can invite candidates whose specialty is most in demand for this particular province.
They can also impose additional requirements on potential immigrants – for example, compulsory knowledge of the French language and others.
List of professions by level
Canada uses a special NOC occupational classification system that assesses qualifications and skills.
In accordance with the system approved in 2016, the gradation is as follows:
- Type 0 – managers, executives.
- Level A – professions that require higher education (doctors, architects and others).
- Level B – technical specialties that require a college degree or other post-secondary education (electrician, plumber, chef, and others).
- Level C – professions that require school education or specialties, the training of which takes place directly at the workplace (truckers, packers, and others).
- Level D – professions that involve work without special education or on-site training (cleaners, waiters, and others).
Federal programs are eligible for Type 0, Level A, or B occupations.
The Atlantic Immigration Program also involves the invitation to work of candidates with specialties of C level. If the level of your profession is D, you can pay attention to the provincial programs. You can find your specialty in the NOC, as well as determine its type or level, on the IRCC website – enter it in the appropriate field and get all the information about the relevance of the profession.

What documents will be needed
The list of documents depends on the program for which you are going to immigrate. It will be different from the package of papers that are required for the same admission to Canadian educational institutions.
First of all, you will need:
- International passport.
- Help on the composition of the family.
- Work experience documents.
- Medical examination results.
- Bank statement or other confirmation of the availability of funds.
- Receipt of payment of the duty.
- Child’s birth certificate (if you are immigrating with your family).
You will also definitely need:
- The results of the language test with a positive mark (if you are taking IELTS General, then for each module you must score at least 6 points, preferably more).
- The results of the assessment of a diploma or other educational document from an accredited organization (an alternative may be an educational document issued by a Canadian educational institution).
It is impossible to designate a complete list of documents, since it will be individual for each specific program. Moreover, the list changes in sync with the adopted legislative innovations. The official website of Citizenship and Immigration Policy of Canada will help you . Many candidates also use the services of specialized law firms, which help to collect a package of documents, check them and eliminate errors at the stage of preparing papers. Their services cost money, but they really save time.
Immigration visa procedure
It is recommended to start with preparation, which is quite realistic to carry out on your own. First, determine the level of proficiency in the language – English or French. There are a lot of free tests in the IELTS format on the Internet, so it’s quite possible to get approximate data. If you know the language well, go to the next stage, to determine the likelihood of your participation in one of the immigration programs.
Next, we go to the IRCC website and get acquainted with the professional classification system. Find your profession in the list (there are convenient filters by name), specify its type or level. The higher the level, the higher the chances of your participation in one of the federal programs being approved. If there is no chance, pay attention to the provincial programs.
We remind you, by the way, that Quebec does not participate in federal programs.
After that, you can assess the chances for Express Entry, taking into account additional points for French, the presence of relatives in Canada, and so on.
If you are ready and potentially eligible, evaluate the proposed immigration programs and apply for one of the immigration programs. Most of those wishing to leave Russia for Canada should pay attention to the basic federal proposals. Then you will receive a response from the ministry and you can find instructions in the submitted documents or on the same IRCC website. Be prepared to collect impressive money – it will be important to confirm its presence in order to obtain a visa.
Summary
Labor immigration to Canada involves the participation of a candidate in one of the federal or provincial programs. Less commonly used are the opportunities for business immigration or for obtaining a visa through investment. Taking into account the country’s disposition to accept migrants and the constant increase in the quota, it can be noted that the move is promising.
If you know English or French perfectly, have a specialized education and work experience in one of the in-demand professions, your chances are high. If you have relatives in Canada, the chances are even higher. But even in a situation where they are not there, you can try to immigrate. The main thing is to be able to confirm qualifications, education and good intentions.
