Huawei Watch Fit 2 review

I tried and thoroughly tested the Huawei Watch Fit 2 smartwatch – here’s what I think. The complete review of the Huawei Watch Fit 2 with PROs and CONS

Recensione Huawei Watch Fit 2

Here we are with a new SUPER review for YourLifeUpdated readers .

Today in particular we will go and find out together whether or not it makes sense to buy the Huawei Watch Fit 2 smartwatch , one of the latest models launched by the company.

PREMISE

As usual, I have thoroughly tested this device and stressed it out during my sports sessions of running, tennis, Crossfit, bodyweight training and so much more.

Unlike many other “reviewers”, when I go to try a smartwatch I do it seriously , putting it to the test in many situations and trying to thoroughly test both the sports and smart parts.

Only in this way, in fact, I think it is possible to propose a review that is truly precise and reliable , unlike many others that I find online, where those who publish the review of a smartwatch have not even tried it for a 5-minute run.

But let’s not get lost in chat: let’s see together my complete review of this Huawei Watch Fit 2 .

Written review of Huawei Watch Fit 2

In short, I can tell you that we are dealing with an EXCELLENT smartwatch, which stands out for a truly incredible quality / functions / price ratio.

It costs little, is well assembled, offers a lot of features and is super precise . To review only the management of notifications . For all other details read the full review below.

NOTE : apart from design and materials, software and functionality are almost identical to what has already been seen on the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro (READ THE REVIEW) , which however costs much more.

PACKAGING

Very simple : we have the watch, the magnetic wireless charger and a small instruction manual.

MATERIALS AND DESIGN

Aesthetically, I like this Huawei Watch Fit 2 and it convinces a lot: it is light, comfortable to wear, you never feel it on the wrist, but despite this it offers a beautiful large display and very comfortable to read.

The materials are a mix of aluminum (for the front case) and plastic (for the back). Both to the eye and to the touch they seem to be of excellent workmanship and are reminiscent of those of an Apple Watch both in terms of shapes and colors. The assembly is excellent.

The dimensions are 46 x 33.5 x 10.8 mm, while the weight is only 26g (without strap).

The left side is clean, on the right we find a single button flush with the body and the speakers, essential for managing phone calls on the wrist. At the bottom we find the various health sensors and quick releases to change the strap. Also in the lower part we find 2 magnetic hooks for charging.

The thing I particularly like about this Huawei Watch Fit 2 is that, while in the past it had the size and design of a smartband , it has now become a real smartwatch both in terms of aesthetics and functionality.

Let’s not forget, then, that it is possible to buy Huawei Watch Fit 2 in various colors and with straps made of different materials: all this allows you to adapt the device to both sports and worldly situations.

Finally, the device resists water up to 5ATM.

However, I must point out that, while I was in the sun in the pool, the device overheated several times and turned off automatically: this has never happened to me with wearable devices.

SCREEN

As anticipated, the screen has grown a lot compared to the past and this makes it practically identical to that of a smartwatch, even if the shape remains rectangular and not square.

Specifically, we have a 1.74 ″ AMOLED screen , perfectly readable under the sun , with a resolution of 336 x 480 pixels, PPI 336.

The colors reproduced by the screen are really beautiful, the definition is excellent, as well as the sensitivity of the touch. There is an automatic brightness sensor , but we can still customize the brightness on various levels .

There is the gesture that turns on the screen at the rotation of the wrist (and it works very well), but if we want we can also activate the always-on display , which clearly negatively impacts the battery.

Even if it is not protected by side bezels, the display seems very resistant to shocks and especially scratches: I have never been too delicate, but in my weeks of testing I have not noticed even the slightest scratch.

OPERATING SYSTEM AND INTERFACE

INTRODUCTION:

  • many features are not compatible with iPhone
  • to use the watch with Android we need to download the Huawei Health APK file (outside the Play Store)

The operating system is HarmonyOS 2: it is very easy to use, very fast and responsive and it is truly perfect for smartwatches. As already mentioned, the software and functions are the same identical already seen on the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro.

The interface is controlled by swipe and side button and all interactions are really clear and immediate .

With a swipe down we can access the quick commands (Settings, Water drainage, Find Phone, Do not disturb, Alarm clock, Active screen).

With an upward swipe we can access notifications.

With a swipe to the right we can access “ Assistant Today “, which allows you to view the weather forecast, reactivate the voice assistant, access the apps that have been opened and view push messages from the calendar and AI Tips. However, it should be noted that the voice assistant only works on smartphones with EMUI, so I could not test it.

With a swipe to the left we can access the measurement of beats, saturation, weather forecasts, the call log, the moon phases and the activity log.

By pressing the side button we can access the menu with all the apps installed on the watch.

As I said, using this watch is easy right out of the box and the interface works extremely smoothly and quickly.

CUSTOMIZATION AND WATCHFACE

Also good in terms of personalization .

Speaking of watchface , we have several pre-installed (about 13) and we can download others both for free and for a fee via the smartphone app. Each quadrant can then be further customized in terms of appearance and functions.

If desired, we can also easily set any of our images as a background , easily and in a few clicks.

However, I was unable to add other custom tabs in addition to those already present , while it is possible to change their order. I would have liked, for example, the possibility to add the calendar, the stress measurement or more, but it is not possible.

NOTIFICATIONS, APP AND SMART PART

Also good from this point of view, even if there are some aspects to improve.

As we have already seen, there is a voice assistant but it only works with smartphones with EMUI (Honor and Huawei), so I could not test it.

It is possible to make and receive calls from the wrist : the speaker volume is good and loud enough. To start phone calls from the wrist, we must first set up favorite contacts from the phone (max 10). There is no telephone keypad to initiate calls from the wrist.

As for the  notifications , we can still  see and read them all , but not without problems.

First of all I couldn’t see the emojis received.

Furthermore , the notifications were never properly synchronized with the smartphone : I kept seeing old notifications that had actually already been deleted on the phone.

Again with regard to notifications , we can only respond with predefined responses (at most customizable from the phone), but not to SMS.

We cannot respond with voice or a keyboard . We can’t even see the images we receive in chat and, when we receive images or emojis on WhatsApp , we can’t even understand it since the system reports a generic notification, without any other information.

Furthermore, again for notifications, only a small part of the message is seen (both WhatsApp and SMS or mail), as opposed to competitors where it is possible to see much more text.

In short, on the notification management side, you can do a LOT more.

Present the notification of disconnection between watch and smartphone. Unlike other Huawei smartwatches, the NFC chip is not present here.

It is possible to download some additional apps through the App Gallery , but the programs available are very few and not very useful.

Good vibration .

It is possible to send songs in MP3 format from the phone to the watch to listen to music using bluetooth headphones connected to the watch (we have 32GB of internal memory): in this way we can go for a run and play sports without depending on the smartphone .

Among the pre-installed apps, I point out:

  • workouts (we’ll see them shortly)
  • training log
  • training status (which measures running ability index, training load, recovery, VO2Max)
  • heart rate
  • SpO2
  • Healthy Living (a daily plan with goals to drink water, sleep a certain number of hours, take steps, smile every day, breathe correctly …)
  • activity logs
  • sleep
  • stress
  • breathing exercises
  • call log
  • contacts
  • musica
  • compass
  • notifications
  • weather forecast
  • stopwatch
  • timer
  • Wake Up
  • torch
  • find phone
  • Petal Maps (which doesn’t work though)

SENSORS AND HEALTH ANALYSIS

Among the sensors present I point out:

  • 9-axis IMU sensor (accelerometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor)
  • Optical heart rate sensor ( same as Huawei Watch GT 3)
  • GPS (operating with a dual band system with five receiving antennas)

The sensors side is very complete and, above all, it seemed very accurate to me.

The GPS connects to the satellites in a few seconds, it is very accurate and comparable to that of the best smartwatches. Not perfect, but the margin for error is very small.

The calculation of the steps seemed to me quite accurate, much better than Garmin, since it detects fewer “missteps” (when we drive, we brush our teeth ..).

The calculation of heartbeats is extremely accurate , both at rest and during sports activities.

Huawei is one of the few companies, besides Garmin and Apple , that can offer a precise and reliable calculation of the beats. I compared the measurements with Garmin Venu 2 and a Polar heart rate monitor during running , Crossfit and rowing sessions , elliptical and in all cases the results were almost identical, even in the most excited phases of training.

The measurement of any peaks during sporting activities is also very good , always precise and always on the piece.

Overall it seems to me that this sensor is very similar to that of the Garmin Venu 2 or Watch GT 3 Pro, but slightly less accurate than these. However, we are talking about one of the most accurate sensors ever seen on Android compatible devices.

The calculation of calories consumed , on the other hand, is slightly overblown : I have made various comparisons with the Garmin, which is a sample of precision, and in general this Huawei Watch Fit 2 tends to overestimate the calories consumed by 10-15% in some sports, especially generic ones such as Crossfit , Cardio and the like. Very precise, however, in the calculation of calories during running, elliptical or rowing machine.

It is possible to calculate the stress level and , in general, the results seem to me comparable to those provided by Garmin.

It is obviously possible to monitor the hours of sleep and in this case the results seemed to me quite accurate , very similar to those detected by Garmin at least as regards the time I fell asleep and the time I woke up. It is also possible to analyze light, deep and REM sleep, but I have noticed that, like the Watch GT 3 Pro, it occasionally reports that I woke up during the night when I was actually sleeping.

The sensor that measures the oxygenation of the blood is also super precise , among other things very fast in the analysis.

Too bad there is no possibility to do ECG , which will not arrive even in the future since there are no dedicated sensors.

PART SPORT

The sports part of this Huawei Watch Fit 2 is also very good .

First of all I would like to point out that for 7 sports (including running, cycling and swimming) we have fitness animations and a voice guide that assists us in warming up.

Very well, then, the fact that it is possible to monitor almost 100 sports activities , some of which with dedicated metrics, such as rowing in the rowing machine.

In all cases, the sports I have tried collect a lot of data and in a very precise way , especially with regard to running, where among other things we can take advantage of many running courses that offer us many personalized training plans, suitable for all types of sportsmen.

Present the ability to automatically detect a running, walking, elliptical and rowing workout.

For each workout we can then choose to set interval or heart rate reminders and time or calorie goals .

Also very nice is the function that, during training, updates us with voice messages on our progress (eg. Kilometers made, heart rate ..).

At the end of the training  there is a quick report that shows the main information and statistics relating to the activity just ended and which differs depending on the training just done, while through the smartphone app we can analyze more information and details.

In short, after various in-depth tests I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this Huawei Watch Fit 2 is a perfect training companion. In some “generic” sports the calculated calories are slightly in excess, but all the other data collected are many and really precise.

BATTERY AND AUTONOMY

As we all know, the autonomy  of these products always varies a lot according to the use made of them and the sensors activated.

The company says the battery lasts 10 days with low use and 7 days with heavy use. In my tests I found exactly this with all sensors active, notifications active, sleep measurement, always-on off, and at least 1 hour of training per day.

An overall excellent autonomy and definitely higher than that of many other smartwatches on the market.

Huawei Watch Fit 2 is the perfect watch for those who want a very precise and complete smart device, which however does not require daily recharging.

Charging is quite fast (just over 1 hour), but I point out that the magnets used for the charging cable are quite weak and you have to be careful when charging the device, otherwise you risk that the charger disconnects from the watch without we realize it.

PREZZO

Huawei Watch Fit 2 starts from a price of 149 euros to go up, based on the colors and the type of strap. A perfectly focused price from my point of view.

Comparing the Huawei Watch Fit 2 with other smartwatches in this price range, there is really no history and comparison: this is light years ahead of all the others from every point of view.

CONCLUSIONS

Well, we’ve come to the conclusions of this Huawei Watch Fit 2 review. What do I think? You convinced me?

Absolutely yes.

I can guarantee you that, if it were not for the problem related to the management of notifications (definitely to be reviewed), I would have already retired my Garmin to switch to this Huawei Watch Fit 2.

Without a doubt, Huawei Watch Fit 2 is one of the best smartwatches currently available in the Android landscape , especially for those who want precise and reliable data on sport and do not like watches that are too large, flashy and bulky.

Among the PROs I must definitely list:

  • top materials and assembly
  • large and clearly visible screen
  • modern operating system, fluid, fast and intuitive to use
  • truly infinite battery
  • very precise sensors
  • many features
  • GPS speed
  • excellent price / performance ratio
  • perfect for sports

Unfortunately, however, it is not perfect and some limitations / problems are really annoying. Among the most important for me I point out:

  • management notifications to be reviewed, much lower than a Garmin and any Android Wear
  • very few compatible apps other than those already present
  • NFC nient
  • calorie calculation to review for some sports

As soon as Huawei fixes the notification management system, undoubtedly Huawei Watch Fit 2 will become my official smartwatch and I will say goodbye to Garmin.
