How to write the diameter symbol

The diameter symbol is not common, in fact, we do not find it on keyboards with Spanish distribution, but it can be written or obtained in some ways so that users who use it can type it whenever they need it on their computer.

It is not a symbol that you will use often, you probably do not know what it is or you will never use it, but those who are dedicated to mathematics or even physics, probably do need to know how to write it in Word or another editor of texts .

First of all, you must be clear about something, keyboards with Spanish distribution do not have the diameter symbol , so you will not be able to type it directly by pressing a key as they would with others, for example, when writing the euro symbol that cannot be in all keyboards.

That does not mean that it cannot be written, but for this you have to resort to other possibilities to obtain it and we are going to show you some methods. It is true that you could find the diameter symbol in other keyboard layouts , but in Spanish it is not.

Using a key combination

The diameter symbol is represented by ø or also as Ø in the case of its capitalized equivalent. If you start looking for it on your keyboard you will not find it, but you can type it, for example, using a very specific combination of keys . Open Word and press these keys:

  • Alt + 0248: you will see that it writes the symbol in its lowercase form, it would be ø.
  • Alt + 0216: the diameter symbol appears in capital letters, it would be Ø.

When we say that you press those keys we mean that you press Alt and without releasing it you type the 4 numbers, in a few moments the symbol appears.

On Mac with the letter O

If you have a MacBook , the way to write the diameter symbol is somewhat different, you only have to activate capital letters and then press the Alt key, and without releasing the latter, press the letter o on the keyboard, you will see that it also appears in a few moments in the text.

Copy and paste the symbol

Without having to write it, you can copy the diameter symbol that we leave you below to paste it anywhere you need it:

  • Lower case: ø
  • Uppercase: Ø
