Transparent silicone cases retain the familiar design of the device and are therefore in demand. But they have their own “Achilles heel” – yellowing, which appears after several months of active use.
Of course, you can always buy a new one. Or try to restore the former appearance in different ways. We will tell you about them in this article.
Dishwashing liquid
Add a little regular dishwashing detergent to a small amount of warm water and foam the water. Dip the cover into this warm solution and scrub it thoroughly with an old toothbrush.
If this does not help, it is recommended to enhance the effect of the product in the following way:
- Make a new solution of warm water and dishwashing liquid, but now add to it a couple of peas of toothpaste, a teaspoon of salt, and half a glass of regular table vinegar;
- Place the pad in water for about 20 minutes and brush again with a toothbrush;
- Rinse the accessory under running water, wipe with a napkin and let dry.
Toothpaste
One of the popular products that helps clean dirt not only from teeth, but also from phone cases. It is noteworthy that you need to take the most ordinary paste – white, without additional impurities or active components. Otherwise, it may have a bad effect on the external condition of the case.
What to do:
- The toothpaste should be applied in a thick layer to all yellowed areas of the surface, then left until completely dry;
- Remove any remaining traces with damp wipes;
- Rinse the cover under cold running water and wipe dry.
Liquid soap solution
Sulfanol, a highly concentrated liquid soap, can help deal with yellowing on an accessory.
- Add and stir 2-3 drops of soap into 1 liter of warm water;
- Leave the yellowed accessory in the prepared solution for half an hour;
- Heavy dirt can be rubbed off with a sponge after soaking;
- Rinse under running water and dry.
People with sensitive skin are advised to use household gloves when cleaning, as the concentrated product may cause an allergic reaction. Alternatively, liquid soap can be replaced with dishwashing liquid.
A solution of soda and soda
Many have probably heard more than once about the amazing properties of Coca-Cola, which can even clean some types of difficult dirt. It is also suitable for treating a silicone case for a smartphone. Additionally, you need to take a sealed plastic container, a couple of paper towels and some baking soda.
How to clean:
- Line the bottom of the container with a paper towel or napkin;
- Next, cover the entire bottom with a small layer of soda;
- Place the yellowed case in the container with the outer wall on the soda and sprinkle the inner surface of the accessory well with soda;
- Fill it all with Coca-Cola so that the liquid completely covers the case;
- Cover with a second paper towel and sprinkle the cover with another layer of baking soda;
- Pour the rest of the drink into the container. One can is usually enough for cleaning;
- Cover and leave for about an hour;
- Wipe the accessory with the same towels, then rinse with warm water to remove any remaining soda and soda, and wipe dry.
Sodium tetraborate, onion and vinegar solution
This method is often noted as one of the most effective for removing unpleasant yellowing from silicone smartphone cases.
If the contamination is recent:
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of sodium tetraborate in 1 liter of warm water. The product can be purchased at a pharmacy;
- Soak the accessory for at least half an hour;
- Rinse under running water and dry.
If the yellowness is long-standing:
- Prepare the same solution;
- Add 1 tbsp. 9% vinegar and a few drops of onion juice;
- Leave the pad in the liquid for at least half an hour;
- Rinse under running water and dry.
Hydrogen peroxide solution
With this simple method you can not only clean, but also disinfect the cover.
How to do:
- Dilute 3% hydrogen peroxide in warm water in equal parts;
- Place the accessory in the solution and leave for 15 minutes;
- After this time, wipe well with a damp cloth and dry.
Vinegar and soda solution
The effectiveness of these two components for cleaning various objects has been proven in practice more than once. However, we must not forget that soda is an abrasive that can scratch some surfaces, and vinegar can leave a strong smell that will take more than one hour to dissipate. Before deciding to use this method, you need to make sure that there are no metal inserts on the silicone case, and you do not need to go anywhere in the near future.

A good choice if the yellowing has just appeared and the contamination is minor.
What to do:
- Place a small amount of solvent on a cotton pad;
- Wipe the silicone surface inside and out;
- Rinse the wiped areas with water.
If necessary, this procedure can be repeated a couple more times until the yellowness disappears completely.
A mixture of milk and egg white
This option may seem strange to some, but this remedy helps. Especially if you need to return the opaque case to its original whiteness.
How to do:
- Pour 3 tablespoons of cold milk into a small bowl or deep plate;
- Add the white of one egg;
- Beat until thick foam forms;
- Spread over the entire surface of the overlay. It is most convenient to use a kitchen brush for this;
- Leave to dry, then rinse under warm water and wipe with a soft cloth.
Soda paste
Regular baking soda is a good cleaning agent that is also worth trying. However, it is a strong abrasive, so it is not recommended to use it in its pure form – there is always a risk of leaving visible damage to the material. That is why it is better to use soda only with the addition of water. Soda paste will help clean a transparent silicone case even from strong yellowing.
