How to view the IP and MAC of a connected device in Windows

There are many devices that we can connect to our local network. We are talking, for example, of NAS servers, printers, computers, mobiles … Sometimes it is necessary to know what the IP address or MAC address of a specific computer is. In this way we can carry out some configurations, security improvements or even solve possible problems that may arise. In this article we are going to explain how to see the IP and MAC of a device connected to the network from Windows 10. A series of simple steps that we can carry out to obtain this information.

How to view the IP and MAC of a connected device in Windows

Windows 10 is today the most widely used operating system on desktop computers. This means that many users may need to know what the IP or MAC address of a device they have connected is. We can obtain this in a simple and fast way, simply by following the steps that we are going to explain.

This is especially necessary when we have a printer connected to the home network or even in an office when we have several, as well as with NAS servers . It may be necessary to know what the static IP address is in order to share it with other devices or in case our equipment has stopped detecting it.

There are different ways to view data related to devices connected to a network . Beyond using programs, we can obtain the information without having to install anything, simply with the options that are in the Windows operating system, which is provided by the router itself or even some devices, with integrated options.

Control Panel

To find out the IP and MAC address we have to go to Start, go to the Control Panel , Hardware and Sound and click Devices and Printers . Once we are here, it will show us all the devices such as printers or NAS servers that are connected.

When we find ourselves in the section as we see in the image above, we simply have to select the device that interests us. We click with the second mouse button, enter Properties and click on the UPnP tab .

As we can see in the image, here we see information related to the device, such as the name of the manufacturer, model, serial number, whether or not it is connected at that time … And we will also see the IP address and the MAC address that corresponds with that team.

Windows Settings

We have seen how we can see the IP and MAC of any connected network device in Windows easily from the Control Panel. However, we will also be able to obtain this information through Windows Settings .

In this case we go back to Start but open Settings. Later we enter Devices, we go to Printers and scanners, we select the one that interests us and we click Manage. There we will see the different options to find information related to that device and we can see the IP or MAC address.

This team

We also have another alternative to see the IP or MAC address of a device through the Equipment . We have to open any folder and go to This team. There we will see all the units that we have connected, including the network locations, where the NAS servers that we have would appear, for example.

We simply have to select the device that interests us, click with the second mouse button and enter Properties. Once there, a new window will open where it will show us information related to that team. We can see the corresponding IP address, as well as the MAC address.

Physical buttons on the printer and other devices

There are devices such as printers that have a physical button that shows us information related to that equipment and the network, such as the IP or MAC address. They usually have a small LCD screen where it shows us the corresponding data.

This option is not available on all printers, but it is on most modern ones. Information such as “Network address”, “TCP / IP” or “Wi-Fi status” usually comes. There we will find this data available.

View the IP and MAC from the router

Through the router we will also be able to obtain information from the connected devices, such as the IP and MAC address . This is something that we can obtain from any computer we have, regardless of whether it is an IP printer, NAS server, television …

To obtain this information we will have to access the device. You need to know what the default gateway is, although in most cases it is 192.168.1.1. We have to put it in the browser and access through the corresponding credentials.

If we do not know what the default gateway is, we can go to Start, open the Command Prompt, execute ipconfig and there it will show us a series of data among which it is located.

Once inside it will depend on the router model we have. Generally, it is necessary to enter Advanced Options , go to Device Information and DHCP. There we will see all the computers connected to that router and next to each one it will show us the IP and MAC addresses.

Keep in mind that we have more and more devices connected to the network. There are many equipment such as printers, NAS servers, televisions … On many occasions, as we have indicated, it is necessary to obtain some data such as the IP address or the MAC address and to be able to carry out necessary configurations and improvements. What is known as the Internet of Things, which are all the devices in our home that are connected to the Internet, are increasingly present and that also means that we must carry out some actions to maintain the proper functioning at all times.

In short, by following these steps that we have mentioned, we can find out what is the MAC address or IP address of a specific computer that we have connected to our local network. Very useful to obtain this information from a printer or a NAS server and to be able to configure it correctly if necessary.
