How to use WhatsApp on multiple devices with multi-device mode

The new multi-device or multi-platform mode of WhatsApp is already available, so we are going to explain how to use this system. It allows us to use WhatsApp on up to 4 devices such as computers and tablets without the main mobile being available (that is, off or without an Internet connection).

In our guide on WhatsApp Web we have thoroughly explained all its secrets, including the obligation to keep the main mobile online, which has been weighing down its operation for years, and that alternatives such as Telegram, Facebook Messenger or Instagram do not suffer.

How to know what time your message has been read on WhatsApp

In addition, the multi-device mode not only avoids depending on the mobile, it will also allow to take the application to new platforms, including Android and iPad tablets , or others that WhatsApp considers interesting in the future.

Unfortunately, for the initial configuration WhatsApp still needs a main mobile , since it identifies us through the phone number, sending an SMS with a security code. WhatsApp has no intention of adapting a username and password system like almost any other current app.

These are the steps to use this new possibility:

  • Although the multi-device mode will reach the whole world, we may have to install the beta versions (tests) on our Android smartphone and PC or Mac computer to use it at first:
  • Download WhatsApp beta for Android
  • Download WhatsApp Web beta for Windows / Mac
  • For now, the browser version of WhatsApp does not support multiple devices, you have to use the computer program. In the future the multi-device mode will also work on iPhone, and it is very likely that a version will be released for iPad and Android tablets.
  • To determine if we have access to the new mode, we must open the three-point menu in the “Chats” tab (top right) and see an option for “Linked devices” instead of the traditional “WhatsApp Web”:
  • We must click on “Link a device” , if it is still in tests we will touch on “Join the beta version” and then confirm with “Continue” that we will have to re-scan the QR code of WhatsApp Web :
  • After confirming the change, click on “Pair a device” on the new screen:
  • Now we need to enter the mobile PIN or identify ourselves with the fingerprint , a precaution so that they cannot spy on WhatsApp from another computer without us finding out.
  • Next we open WhatsApp Web beta for computers (PC or Mac), the browser version will not work, and we scan the QR code that appears on the home screen with the phone :
  • Then the multi-device version of WhatsApp will open , which does not depend on the mobile and can be used in 4 locations at the same time.
  • The welcome screen briefly describes how to use this new mode:

Make calls and send messages without connecting your phone.

Use WhatsApp on up to 4 devices at the same time.

  • If we wish, we can close the open sessions on WhatsApp Web , for example, if we are going to sell one of the secondary devices that we use.

In fact, it is important to know if we have the WhatsApp Web session open on other devices , as they could read the conversations without our permission. It would be illegal behavior but, in any case, we have to be cautious to keep our privacy safe.

Actually, it is very easy to use WhatsApp on various devices , as the process hardly changes. The use of a QR is maintained instead of a username and password, but in any case we are facing a very remarkable advance.
