One of the most complex systems in the car – climate – is designed to cool the air in the cabin. In the summer, no one, as a rule, has any questions about its use.Another thing is winter. Someone says that the work of “kondeya” in the cold can harm him. And others assure that the system is, on the contrary, useful. In fact, there are at least two reasons for starting the air conditioning system of a car in the cold season.
Maintenance
Many people forget that, like any other system in a car, the air conditioner needs regular maintenance , as well as periodic refilling with refrigerant. After all, even from a serviceable sealed system, freon will gradually evaporate through joints, connections, microcracks and seals. Therefore, on new cars, “condo” should be refueled at least once every 2-3 years, and on cars older than 5-6 years, this should be done annually.
But, in addition to refueling, in order to keep the system in working condition, even in winter, the air conditioner should be run at least once or twice a month, letting it run for a few minutes. During this time, the refrigerant circulating through the lines lubricates the parts and seals that rub against each other, which can dry out over time. It is best to turn on the air conditioner in winter in a warm garage or parking lot, since the compressors used in car air conditioning systems operate at a temperature not lower than -5 ° C, and others at least at +2 ° C .. +5 ° C.
Anti-fog glass
Windows in cars fog up not only in summer during rain or in the off-season. But also in winter, when the temperature is near zero outside, and the car is damp due to puddles on the rugs underfoot and wet outerwear. At the same time, fogged glasses impair visibility, which is unsafe. However, it is worth turning on the air conditioner or climate control, as dry air will return all the windows in the car to their former transparency in a matter of minutes.
The fact is that the cooled air supplied to the car interior is overdried due to the fact that during the operation of the air conditioner, moisture condenses in the cells of the evaporator radiator, and then is removed outside through the drainage channel. This property of dry cold air, which actively absorbs moisture, is used by car owners.
