The Messages app has seen the arrival of many new features from the hand of iOS and iPadOS 14 : from the mentions, to the replies and threads, through the photos in the group conversations. On a visual level, the main change is found in the ability to set conversations at the top of the app for quick access .
We can set up to nine conversations and these will be synchronized in the Messages app of our iPhone, iPad or Mac instantly. Pinned apps, which appear at the top of the message list, also show the most recent messages, tapbacks, and “typing” indicators, all animated .
Pinning or unpinning conversations in the Messages app
Setting a new conversation, as well as setting another, is very simple and we can do it in several different ways , the steps are as follows.
On our iPhone or iPad
- We open the Messagesapp on our iPhone or iPad.
- On the iPhone, if we are in a conversation, we touch the “<” button in the upper left to see the list of messages.
- We hold down on a conversation.
- We choose Set [Name]or Unset [Name] .
Alternatively we can slide the conversation to the right and touch the yellow pin icon that appears. Finally, we can also touch the button in the form of three points within a circle and then on Edit Fixed . Once here to unset conversations by touching the “-” that accompanies them and, to set others, the yellow pin that appears next to their name.
On our Mac
The process on the Mac is quite similar , we will do it like this:
- We open the Messagesapp on our Mac.
- We secondary click on a conversation.
- We choose Set [Name].
How to reorder fixed conversations
In addition to setting and unsetting conversations, we can edit the order in which they appear. This order, thanks to iCloud, is also synchronized on all our devices.
To edit the order of the conversations, both on the iPhone, on the iPad or on the Mac, we only have to drag the conversation that interests us to the location we want . If we drag the conversation down to the message list, we will undo it.
It is worth mentioning that the order of the fixed conversations has no effect on the order in which they appear on the share sheet . This section mainly takes into account the last interaction we have had with a person or group of people in the Messages app.
