BTTV has been a popular add-on for Twitch for many years. The extension was apparently originally intended to be used on Twitch, as the name is Better Twitch TV. However, Youtube streaming has been getting better and better over the past few years.

One of the best features on Twitch is emotes. Emotes are a way for communities on Twitch to share their feelings through funny images. They make up the majority of the Twitch community and streamers have unique emotes for their streams.

It hasn’t been on Youtube for a long time, but BTTV just released an update to their extension to allow it to be used on Youtube. In this article, we will show you how to use BTTV emoji on Youtube. Let’s jump.

How to install BTTV emotes for Youtube

The Better Twitch TV extension is now compatible with both Youtube and Twitch. Follow these steps to activate BTTV on your channel:

  • Go to betterttv.com and sign in.
  • Go to the dashboard in the top bar and then to the connections on the left side.
  • Click on the Connect to Youtube button.
  • You will now be prompted to connect your Youtube account to BTTV. Go ahead and click on the “Continue” button.
  • Once connected, you will see that your account has been connected on the BTTV Dashboard. If you ever want to disable it, just click “Disable Youtube” .
  • Once you have linked your account, you need to install the BTTV extension in your browser. You may already have this installed if you use BTTV on Twitch. If you don’t click “Home” then click “Download for Chrome” (or another browser if you’re using a different one). This will take you to the Chrome extension. Click “Install” to install it.
  • When the extension is installed, it will ask you for additional permissions to use BTTV on Youtube. Accept these permissions.

You have installed BTTV for Youtube. Let’s see how it works.

How to Use BTTV Emotes on Youtube

Once you have BTTV installed in your browser, you will be able to use it on any channel that allows you to use BTTV emotes. The streamer must enable BTTV for Youtube.

  • Enter the Youtube chat you want to use BTTV on.
  • I went to NoahJs chat on Youtube. It has BTTV turned on and a list of available emotes is displayed in its description.
  • Enter the name of the emotion in the chat and send. The emotion will be displayed. If you hover over it, you’ll see that it’s a BTTV emote.

You can also click on the smiley button at the bottom of the chat to use an emote.

Each streamer will have a limited number of emotes available in the chat. Just because you have BTTV turned on doesn’t mean you can use all of the BTTV emotes.

How to Add BTTV Emotes to Your Youtube Stream

If you are a streamer yourself, you can choose which emotes you want to use on your channel. If you have installed BTTV and linked it to Youtube as above, you can follow the steps below to add emotes to your channel.

Creating your own emotion on BTTV

  • Open BetterTTV.com and go to the Dashboard section.
  • In the toolbar, click on emotions. When you add emotes, you will be able to see them here.
  • If you would like to add your own custom emojis, you can do so by clicking the Upload Emoticon button. Give your emote a name, upload the file, and let BTTV know where you got the emote from. Once you’ve filled out everything and agreed to the terms, click “Download emote” . Now you and your chat can use your own emote.

You have successfully added a custom emote to BTTV. If you just want to use the popular generic emotes, read on.

How to Use Shared Emotes on BTTV

The biggest advantage of BTTV is the huge library of popular emotes available on the platform. You and your fans can use these emotes in your broadcast. However, if you want the emote to be available on your stream, you’ll need to add it to your BTTV toolbar. Follow these steps to add generic emoji to your channel:

  • Login to BTTV and go to the dashboard.
  • In your personal account, you will see a section of general emotions.
  • You can add up to 15 shared emotes. To add them, go to the Emotes button at the top of BTTV.
  • Here you will find popular emotes, popular emotes, general emotes, and global emotes. You can use the search bar or scroll through the categories to find the emotes you want to add to your broadcast.
  • Once you’ve found the emote you want to use, click on it and select “Add to Channel.”

You have now successfully added emojis to your Youtube channel. Now you and the audience will be able to use emotions.

How to remove BTTV emote from my channel

If you want to remove an emoji from your channel and replace it with a different one, it’s easy to do so. Just follow these steps:

  • Go to BTTV and login to your control panel.
  • Here you will see a list of all your emotions. Click on the one you want to delete
  • Click on the “Remove from channel” button.

You have now successfully removed an emote from your channel and will be able to add another emote to that slot. It can be fun to change the emotes on your channel to update the information from time to time.

Will BTTV emotes be transferred from Twitch to Youtube

If you are already using BTTV emojis on Twitch and planning to switch your broadcast to Youtube, you will only need to link your Youtube channel to BTTV. Any custom emoji you have uploaded or selected from the shared emoji will still be available in your dashboard and will be immediately available once you link Youtube.

How many BTTV emotions am I allowed

On the free BTTV plan, you are allowed to use 15 custom channel emojis and 15 general emojis. This is usually sufficient for most streamers. However, if you need more emotes, you can upgrade to the BTYTV Pro plan, which gives you access to more emotes and features for $4.99 per month.

On the Pro plan, you will have access to:

  • 50 channel emotes
  • 50 common emotes
  • emotion approval priority
  • 5 personal emoticons without GIF

Plus for each month of subscription (in gratitude to their longtime supporters):

  • +2 channel emotes (up to a maximum of 100)
  • +2 shared emotes (up to a maximum of 100)
  • +1 personal emote (up to a maximum of 25)

Summarizing

Now you can enjoy all the emotions while streaming or watching your favorite Youtube streamers. With more and more established streamers moving to YouTube from Twitch, this is a great addition to bring the Twitch streaming culture to Youtube.
