How to use a PS3 Blu Ray disc drive on a computer

The Playstation 3 has a Blu-Ray disc drive inside of it that reads Blu-ray discs. You can take the Blu-Ray disc drive from the PS3 and insert it into a drive bay inside a Mac or desktop or tower PC, as it is the same size as the DVD drives that computers use. You will only need a few hardware tools to do this. The PC can use the PS3’s Blu-Ray disc drive to read Blu-Ray discs, while the Mac can also do the same when used in Windows emulation mode.

Install and use a PS3 Blu-ray disc drive on a desktop Mac

Unplug the power cord from your Mac desktop. Pull the lever on the side panel on the back of the Mac with your fingers.

Grab the side panel with your hands. Pull the panel up and away from the desktop Mac with your hands. Set the side panel aside.

Remove the two screws on the side of the DVD drive tray located inside the bottom of the empty DVD drive bay with a jeweler’s Phillips screwdriver, the empty DVD drive bay is facing the front. front of the desktop Mac.

Wait for the Windows emulated desktop to appear and recognize the Blu-ray disc drive that is now inside the Mac. Insert a Blu-ray disc into the specific drive when you want to watch a Blu-ray movie on the emulated Windows screen .

Unplug the power cord from your desktop or tower computer. Remove the screws on both sides with the Phillips screwdriver.

Lift the outer cover off the desktop or tower computer with your hands. Set the outer casing aside.

Remove the two screws on the side of the DVD drive tray on the inside front of the desktop or tower computer using a jeweler’s Phillips screwdriver.

Insert the tip of a flat jeweler’s screwdriver into the joint between the DVD drive door bezel and the case on the front of the desktop or tower computer.

Wiggle the tip of the flat-blade screwdriver to dislodge the door bezel from the DVD drive. Pry out the DVD drive door bezel on the front of the desktop or tower computer with your fingers.

Pull the DVD drive tray out of the DVD drive bay. Pull the power cord and data connector tape out of the connections on the back of the DVD drive with your fingers.

Insert the tip of a flat jeweler’s screwdriver into the seam on one side between the case and the bezel of the PS3 Blu-ray disc drive. Wiggle the tip of the flat-head screwdriver to loosen the bezel. Remove the bezel from the front of the PS3 Blu-ray disc drive.

Lay a bath towel on a table. Place the DVD drive tray face down on it.

Remove the screws on both sides of the DVD drive tray with a Phillips jeweler’s screwdriver. Slide the DVD drive out of the tray. Set the DVD drive aside.

Slide the PS3’s Blu-ray disc drive into the DVD drive tray so that the connections on the back of the disc drive are facing outward.

Attach the screws on both sides of the DVD drive tray with a jeweler’s Phillips screwdriver. Turn the tray completely.

Insert the DVD drive tray back slightly into the DVD drive bay. Plug the power cable and data connector from the tape into the two appropriate connections on the back of the PS3’s Blu-ray disc drive. Push the DVD drive tray all the way into the DVD drive bay.

Place the PS3 Blu-ray disc drive bezel on the front of the desktop or tower computer where the DVD drive bezel previously was.

Secure the two screws on the side of the DVD drive bay. Replace the outer case on the desktop or tower. Connect the power cord.

Turn on the desktop or tower. Wait for the Windows operating system to recognize the Blu-ray disc drive that is already inside. Insert a Blu-ray disc into the specific drive when you want to watch such a movie.

Tips

Remove the connections on the back of the PS3’s Blu-ray disc drive with compressed air before inserting them into the computer.

Do not touch the connections on the back of the PS3’s Blu-ray disc drive, as they could be damaged by transmitted static electricity.
