What are the free Agents released from the start?
By default, Valorant comes with 5 characters released for players to start playing online. They are characters with slightly simpler skills to use. They are ideal for those just starting out, but they are no less essential for the strategy of each game.
The 5 characters of Valorant released from the beginning are:
- Agent Brimstone (Controller)
- Agent Jett (Duelist)
- Agent Phoenix (Duelist)
- Agent Sage (Sentinel)

How to unlock new agents in Valorant
All agents can be unlocked simply by playing Valorant, without having to spend real money. For that, it is necessary to activate the so-called contracts , a sequence of missions and requirements to be fulfilled during the matches.
Each contract is divided into five stages, called Tiers. To advance through them, just reach the amount of experience indicated. Something that can speed up your XP gain is to complete Valorant missions. These missions are displayed on the game’s home screen and are constantly reset. Many of them are very easy to do, with conditions such as playing a game, using skills or buying a certain number of shields.
The first contracts are already enabled by default, unlocking new agents at level 5 and level 10. Then you need to select the specific contracts you want to evolve. If you change your mind and want to change agents, there is no need to worry. The collected experience will not be lost.
To activate a contract and unlock an agent in Valorant, follow the steps below:
- Step 01 – On the initial screen, click on the Agents option
- Step 02 – Choose the agent you want to unlock and click on your photo
- Step 03 – Click on Enable Contract
From that moment on, all the experience gained will be dedicated to the chosen agent’s contract Tiers.
How to buy new agents in Valorant
If you are not willing to make all the contracts and fulfill the in-game missions, a much faster alternative to unlock new agents is to buy the game’s virtual money, called Valorant Points (Valorant Points or VP).
When accessing the screen of a blocked agent, you will see the option to view the contract. Then, just select Tier 5 and click on “Enable Tiers 1-5”. The cost of this operation is 1,000 Valorant Points per agent. The screen below will be displayed to confirm the operation:

Which character should I unlock first in Valorant?
Before investing your precious time (or money), a great idea is to test each agent in Valorant’s Training Mode. In this special space of the game all content is released, with the right to infinite ammo and full load for the skills.
To open the training mode, access the Play tab and then click on the “Training” button. All characters are available, whether in shooting range mode or on Spike’s plant.
