How to unlock all Heroes and characters in Overwatch 2: unlock requirements
With Overwatch 2 transitioning to a free to play model, and the fact that it’s technically an expansion of the former, there are a few changes regarding Heroes and how to unlock them .
If we are new players of Overwatch 2, we will have some Heroes blocked
There can be several cases (that we are new Overwatch 2 players, that we were Overwatch players and have moved on to OW2…), and depending on which one is ours, different things happen:
We can check the unlock progress of the Heroes that we are missing in the Hero tab within Challenges
- If we were Overwatch playersand logged into Overwatch 2 with the same account, we would have the vast majority of the game’s Heroes unlocked. The only ones locked should be the ones from the new seasons of Overwatch 2 , and they can be unlocked simply by playing matches .
- If we are new players of Overwatch 2, we will have most of the Heroes blocked. To unlock them, simply play matches of any game mode . We can check the unlock progress in the Hero tab of the Challenges section; playing 150 games in total we unlock all .
- The new Heroes will be available to everyone upon reaching level 55 in the free section of the Battle Pass and will be unlocked immediately if you own the Premium Battle Pass. The new Heroes will normally arrive every other season, with the exception of seasons 1 and 2, which will both have a new one. After these, the idea would be to release a new one in Season 4 and another in Season 6. There will always be ways to get Heroes from previous seasons in the following ones , so everyone has a chance to get them just by playing.
- We can unlock certain Heroes immediately by purchasing some bundles and packs from the store. These can be purchased for real money or Overwatch currency, which also has to be purchased for real money.
In any of these cases, by merging our accounts, we will keep all progress and unlocks (Heroes, skins, emotes…), regardless of the platform on which we play Overwatch 2.
