How to unlink the Apple Watch from our iPhone

There are several reasons for wanting to unpair our Apple Watch and remove it from our iPhone. The most common is that we are going to configure a new one, such as the Apple Watch Series 7 , but it may also be that we want to change the iPhone or even resolve an error in the synchronization between both devices. A process, in any case, of the simplest.

How to unlink the Apple Watch from our iPhone

When you unpair an Apple Watch from your iPhone, the watch backs up all of its content on the iPhone, then completely erases its information and settings to return to the factory defaults. A process that, in general, usually lasts less than five minutes and that we can carry out by following these steps:

  1. Keeping both iPhone and Apple Watch together, we open the Apple Watchapp on our iPhone.
  2. We enter the My Clocktab .
  3. We tap on All Watches.
  4. We press the “i” next to our clock.
  5. Click on Unpair Apple Watch.
  6. If it is a model with a cellular connection, we decide if we want to keep or eliminate the data plan that we have installed.
  7. We confirm that we want to unpair the Apple Watch.

If we do not have the iPhone with us at the time of unlinking, we can open the Settings app on our Apple Watch and go to General  > Reset > Erase contents and settings . After entering the password and choosing whether to keep the data plan, if necessary, press Delete to start the process.

In both cases we will see that the Apple Watch shows a screen with the Apple apple in the center and a kind of circle that fills around it. At the end of the unlinking and erasing process, the Apple Watch will show the instructions to link it again , which we can do on ours or a new iPhone as it suits us.

Doubts cleared up: Gurman believes in the redesign of the Apple Watch Series 8, but not as thought

As we can see, it is a very simple process. A process that will allow us, immediately afterwards, to re-link the Apple Watch with the same iPhone, with another, sell it or give it away. A key step that, at some point in the use of our iPhone and Apple Watch, we will have to take. A step, fortunately, really simple .
