How to convert images to PDF: PC

To begin with, let’s find out how to transform images into PDF acting from a PC . Below, therefore, you will find indicated how to proceed on Windows operating systems , both the most recent and not.

Default virtual PDF printer

If you are using a PC with Windows 10 or later versions , to perform the operation covered by this tutorial you can first use the operating system’s default virtual PDF printer . In case you do not know what it is, I inform you that it is nothing more than a “standard” function of the most recent Microsoft OS that allows you to process any type of printable content, including images, and then save the final result as an external file, in PDF format.

To be able to use it for your purpose, what you have to do is open the image on which to go to act with Photos , which is the default image viewer of the OS, by double clicking on the icon of the file of your interest. If in doing this Photos does not open, it is evidently because the type of file in question is no longer associated with the application: to remedy this, you can follow the instructions contained in my guide on how to change the default program .

As an alternative to how I have just indicated, you can open the photo of your interest by starting Photos from the Start menu , selecting the folder or album of your interest from the application window that appears on the screen and then the image relative to which you want to go and act. You can also search for a specific photo by keyword, using the search field at the top.

In the window that you now see, click on the button (…) located at the top and select the Print item from the menu that appears. If you prefer keyboard shortcuts, you can call up the print command also using the key combination Ctrl + P .

In the print management screen that you now see appear, select the printer called Microsoft Print to PDF or the one called Save as PDF that you find in the Printer menu at the top left. If you find it necessary, you can use the options attached to the other menus available to adjust the orientation, margins etc.

Finally, click on the Print button , indicate the location where you want to save the output file and the name you want to assign it and click on the Save button . Done!

I would like to point out that the instructions for transforming images into PDFs that I have just given you are also valid with an image viewer other than Photo, by recalling the commands for printing from the latter and proceeding as I have indicated.

When the download is complete, open the .exe file obtained and, in the window that appears, click first on the Yes button and then on the Next button . Then put the check mark next to the item I accept the terms in the License Agreement to accept the conditions of use of the software and complete the setup by clicking again on the Next button (three consecutive times) and on the Install and Finish ones .

If during the setup you are asked to install GhostScript and .Net Framework , accept: these are two free components without which PDFill FREE PDF Tools cannot function properly.

How to Turn Images to PDF: Mac

Do you have a Mac ? Then I have great news for you: even then you can convert any image to PDF without downloading additional applications to your computer, using the virtual PDF printer included in macOS. How you do it? I’ll explain it to you right away, it’s child’s play!

To begin with, open the image you want to insert and transform into PDF by double clicking on the file icon , in order to open it in Preview , the software to view photos and – precisely – PDF included “standard” in macOS . If a different program opens in doing this, it is because you have to restore the association between the files.

As an alternative to what I have just indicated, you can open specific images in Preview by selecting the application icon that you find in the MacOS Launchpad , in order to start it, indicating the location and the file of your interest in the window that appears and then pressing on the Open button at the bottom right.

Once the image is open, if you want to work on multiple files simultaneously click on the View menu located at the top left and select the Thumbnails option from it. A sidebar will then appear in which you will have to drag all the images to convert to PDF. You will then have to arrange the thumbnails of the photos in the order you prefer and select them all by pressing the combination of keys cmd + a on the Mac keyboard.

Afterwards, click on the File menu and choose the Print item in it. If you prefer keyboard shortcuts, you can also use the key combination cmd + p .

In conclusion, adjust, if you deem it necessary, the settings related to orientation, layout, etc. that you find in the menus and fields on the screen, select the item Save as PDF from the drop-down menu located at the bottom left, indicate the location in which to save the final document and the name you want to assign it and press the Save button .

The steps I have just indicated can also be carried out by other applications for viewing images and not only with Preview, just call up the print command and proceed as I indicated.

How to turn images to PDF online

You do not want or cannot make use of ad hoc software and predefined functions of your computer and, therefore, would you like me to show you how to transform images into PDF by acting online ? No sooner said than done! To find out which, in my opinion, are the best services in the category, continue reading.

You can use them from any browser and operating system and, moreover, they protect the privacy of users by deleting all the files that are uploaded to their servers within hours of uploading. Despite this, I don’t feel like recommending them if you need to convert files that contain sensitive data (eg personal information, secret work projects, and so on). When dealing with such information, it is always better to rely on offline solutions – or in any case solutions over which you have full control.

iLovePDF

iLovePDF is one of the best services for converting and editing PDF files online, which also integrates a tool to transform JPG images into PDF. It is free, but it places limitations on the maximum weight that the files to be uploaded must have. To get around this and unlock other extra functions, it is necessary to subscribe to a paid subscription (with costs starting from 4 euros / month).

To use the service, go to the tool’s web page , click on the Select PDF file button and select the JPG file you wish to act on. Alternatively, drag the image directly into the browser window. You can also choose to upload the document from your Google Drive or Dropbox account by clicking on the appropriate buttons.

Once uploaded, adjust your preferences regarding document orientation, page size and margins using the options found in the Image in PDF options section on the right and if you have uploaded multiple images, decide whether to merge them all into a single PDF or minus by ticking or deselecting the appropriate option which is always on the right, then click on the Convert to PDF button .

Then wait for the transformation procedure to be completed and the output file will be automatically downloaded to your PC. If the download does not start automatically, click on the Download PDF button to start it manually or select one of the buttons to save the final result on one of the supported cloud storage services .

Other solutions to transform images to PDF online

If you are looking for other solutions through which you can transform images to PDF via the Web, I suggest you take a look at the ones I have included in the list below. I am sure that, in the end, you will finally be able to find something that will satisfy you.

  • PDF Candy– is another online solution through which you can make various types of changes on PDFs and which also allows you to convert various types of images, such as JPG, PNG, TIFF and BMP, into PDF. However, it does not allow you to upload files with a weight greater than 500 MB. To circumvent this limitation and unlock other additional functions, it is necessary to subscribe to a paid subscription (at the basic cost of 6 euros / month).
  • Online2PDF– this is another great service that allows you to convert images to PDF files for free and without annoying registration. It has an upload limit of 150 MB (100 MB per file) and allows you to work on up to 20 documents at the same time.
  • PDF2Go– additional web service to transform JPG images into PDF and perform various other conversion and transformation operations to and from the aforementioned format. It is very easy to use and allows you to upload files with a maximum size of 50 MB. To get around this limit and unlock other functions, you need to create an account and / or subscribe to the paid plan (at a cost of € 5.50 / month).

If you need to intervene on multiple images, you can select them all together by tapping the Select button at the top right and placing a check mark on the elements of your interest in the gallery.

Finally, select the share icon again and choose the Save to File option from the menu that appears to save the converted image as a PDF in a location of your choice or choose another app to export the final result.

The steps contained in this step can also be implemented through applications other than Photos, by calling up the print command and proceeding as I have already indicated.
