In the next paragraphs of this tutorial, in fact, I will explain how to track a GLS package by showing you the detailed procedure for monitoring the status of a shipment using the relative tracking code. Furthermore, if you do not have the code in question, you will also find some useful tips which, in some cases, will still allow you to track your package.

How to track a package shipped with GLS
All you have to do to track a GLS package is to connect to the courier’s official website or start the GLS Mobile app for Android devices (also available on alternative stores , for devices without Google services) or iPhone / iPad and enter the tracking in your possession. Find everything explained in detail right below.
To track a package sent with GLS connected to the courier’s official website , locate the Shipping tracking box and make sure that the National Ref. Option is selected . Then enter the tracking code in your possession (it consists of two letters or a letter and a number followed by a maximum of 9 digits) in the Shipping reference field and click on the arrow icon pointing to the right .
How do you say? Would you like to track international GLS parcel ? In this case, all you have to do is place the check mark next to the International Ref. Option , enter the shipment code (in this case it consists of 11 numbers) in the appropriate field and press the arrow icon pointing to the right. .
If, on the other hand, you have not been provided with the tracking code but you are in possession of the package ID (the numeric code under the barcode) or the transport document number (DDT) , the procedure to find out where the your GLS package is almost identical to what I just indicated to you to track the shipment using the tracking code. In this case, you must first select the option of your interest between Ref. Package ID and Ref. DDT .
I point out that you can monitor the shipment of a GLS parcel also by accessing the Your Order , pressing option online services located in the top menu and selecting Search Shipping from the opened menu.
Regardless of the type of code you used to track your GLS package, in the new page opened you can view all the shipment data in detail and know the current status.
- Notice: it means that the package has been entrusted to the courier but has not yet been sent.
- In transit: the shipment left the sender’s office.
- Recipient location: the package has arrived at the recipient GLS location.
- Delivery: the package is delivered within the day (usually delivery takes place between 8.30 and 18.30).
- Delivered: The package has been successfully delivered.
- Not delivered: for logistical / distribution reasons the delivery is postponed to the next working day with respect to the one previously communicated.
On the same screen, by clicking on the Shipping detail option , you can view the data of the sender and recipient of the package and some additional information relating to the shipment, such as weight , volume , number of packages , transport document number and shipping code .
Furthermore, by clicking on the item Detailed shipment tracking, you can monitor the various statuses of the shipment with the date, time and place of the last update next to it.
If you prefer to track a GLS package from smartphones and tablets , download and start the GLS Mobile app for Android (also available on alternative stores , for devices without Google services) or iPhone / iPad and, upon first access, press the Accept button , to accept the terms and conditions of the service.
Once this is done, enter the shipment code in the Enter shipment number field and indicate the type of shipment by clicking on the option of your interest between National , if it is a national shipment and International , if it is an international shipment. If, on the other hand, you have been provided with the Package ID or the number of the transport document (DTT), press on the item Package ID or DDT depending on the shipping code in your possession.
Then press the Search button and, in the Shipping screen , you can view the status of the shipment ( Advance notice , In transit , Delivered, etc.) and the related data. In particular, in the Details section , you will find the date of departure , the weight , the volume , the number of packages , the place of departure and arrival and, above all, the progress of your shipment.
Finally, if your package is in storage and you need to have information on the GLS office in which it is located, you can click on the Show destination office option and view the data relating to the GLS office in question.
You should know that it is also possible to track a shipment by telephone by calling the GLS customer service (this is an automatic system), active 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The cost of the call varies according to the rate active on your line.
If you think this is a valid solution to track down a GLS package, pick up your phone, dial 02 98 03 5556 and start the call. After listening to the welcome message, press 1 to access the shipping section and then press 1 to track a national shipment or 2 for an international shipment. At this point, carefully follow the instructions of the voice guide to report the tracking code in your possession and obtain information on the status of your shipment.
Keep in mind that the combination of keys to press after calling GLS customer service may change from one moment to the next, so, my instructions aside, carefully follow what the automatic voice says, if you want to avoid making mistakes.
How to track a GLS package without a code
If you are wondering if it is possible to track a GLS package without a code , I am sorry to tell you that the answer is negative. However, if your shipment is for an online purchase, you may still be able to track its status.
Most online shopping sites, in fact, allow you to check the status of the shipment without necessarily going through the official channels of the courier to whom the package was entrusted.
For example, if you purchased a product on Amazon and it was shipped with GLS (or any other courier), you can track the shipment by going directly to the Returns and Orders section of your Amazon account and clicking on the Track my package button for the order of your interest.
In the new screen that appears, by selecting the View all updates option , you can check the status of your shipment without necessarily having to connect to the official GLS website and use the tracking code. To find out more, you can take a look at my guide on how to track an Amazon package .
In addition, you should know that other e-commerce also provide for the sending of an email for each update relating to the status of the shipment (usually the delivery of the package to the courier, the departure of the shipment and the successful delivery is notified).
Please note that the shipment number or at least a link to go directly to the Shipping Tracking page of the GLS website is usually indicated in the email in question .
In case of doubts or problems
If, despite the information I have given you in the previous paragraphs of this guide, you have not been able to track your package, or if you have any doubts regarding the status of the shipment, I recommend that you contact GLS customer service and request assistance.
To do this, connect to the GLS official website and fill out the contact form by entering the required data in the Name , Surname and Email fields . Then specify the subject of your request using the Category drop-down menu , select the type of shipment you are referring to between National Service (for a national shipment) and International Service (for an international shipment) and enter yours message in the appropriate field.
Finally, put the check mark next to the options Give consent and Also declare to be of age , to accept the processing of your personal data and declare that you are 18 years old, and click on the Send button , to send your request and receive assistance by email.
