If you store your online account passwords in Chrome and therefore in the Google manager, you may be wondering if there is a way to sync them with your Apple devices. In this guide I will explain how to sync Google passwords on iPhone . These steps will also be useful if you have an iPad. I even show you how to access the Google password manager from a Mac. Don’t miss it!
Sync Google Passwords on iPhone
To sync Google passwords on iPhone you need to install one of these two apps:
- Google Chrome – Google’s browser gives you access to all the keys you’ve synchronized. It also lets you add them to your device to log in to other applications.
- Google . It is the application for doing searches with Google. It acts as a kind of browser, although it includes several options that are not available in Chrome, such as searching for songs by humming or the possibility of chatting with Gemini .
Have you already installed either of these two apps? If so, great. You’re now all set to set them as your default iOS password manager.
You should do it like this in iOS 18:
- Go to the device settings.
- Click on General .
- Tap AutoFill & Passwords .
- On this screen, activate Google or Chrome .
From now on, iOS will use Google’s password manager database to autofill passwords in all apps. Obviously, this works perfectly in Chrome, but also in Safari or other apps that require a login.
If you’re on iOS 17 , you can view your Google passwords directly from the Passwords section of your iPhone’s settings. Starting with iOS 18, you’ll need to go to the Google or Chrome apps to manage your passwords. You can also make changes to your login details at passwords.google.com .
Another thing to keep in mind is that passkeys will still use iCloud Keychain on Apple devices. You won’t be able to create passkeys and add them to your Google account from an iPhone or Mac. You also won’t be able to use ones you’ve already generated from other devices. The latter is something that other specialized password managers , such as Proton Pass or Bitwarden, do allow.
What if I have an iPad?
It’s not unusual for a user to combine an Android mobile device with an iPad. After all, it’s one of the most popular tablets on the market. What do you need to do to have your Google passwords on the iPad? Exactly the same as with the iPhone. Simply download the Google or Chrome app and they’ll act as password managers on your tablet.
Can you sync Google passwords on iPhone and Mac?
As you can see, the iPhone and iPad are devices with which Google’s password manager integrates quite well. However, this is not the case on the Mac, where synchronization is only possible with Chrome . Note! You should know that macOS has a similar setting to iOS and iPadOS. That is, it supports third-party password managers to auto-fill field.
What happens in this case is that Chrome has not been configured as a password manager that macOS recognizes. So you will not be able to use the passwords you have saved in your Google account in other applications. What are your options in this regard?
- Use Chrome for everything . If you access all of your daily apps from Chrome because they’re all web-based, then you don’t need passwords to sync with macOS.
- Go for a third-party password manager . It should be one that supports both iOS and macOS integration. This way, you’ll enjoy greater integration.
- Rely only on iCloud Keychain . Finally, the other possibility is to only use iCloud Keychain. The problem is that by doing so you are losing the ability to have your keys on Android. In the case of Windows, Apple supports iCloud Keychain through iCloud for Windows .
You can, however, access all your passwords from Chrome on a Mac by clicking the three vertical dots button and selecting Passwords & autofill . Then, click on Google Password Manager . Your passwords are also available at passwords.google.com .
