Learn how to start a new game in Elden Ring and embark on an exciting adventure in this highly-anticipated action role-playing game.
Some games are so good that you want to play them several times in a row, trying new builds, completing those quests that you couldn’t do the first time, and so on. And many developers are now meeting the players halfway and adding such a thing as “New Game+”.
In this article we will look at how Elden Ring NG+ works and what its advantages are.
How to enable Elden Ring NG+
New Game+ mode becomes available after you defeat the Elden Beast (the final boss) and watch the entire ending (no matter which ending you get).
After the cutscene, the game will offer you to start NG+ automatically. If you refuse, you will return to the Fortress of the Round Table. There, on the table of lost grace, the item “Start a new journey” will appear. Whichever option you ultimately choose, the game will send you to the Chapel of Waiting.
By the way, you don’t have to start a new game right after the ending. You can run around the part of the world that’s accessible to you. But if you still want to start NG+ with a new build, first get to Rennala the Full Moon and rebuild your character’s stats. We’ll explain why you need to do this below.
To get out of the Chapel of Waiting, you will have to die in any way. For example, from falling off a cliff. In this case, you will not lose the runes and will find yourself in the main part of the continent upon respawn. If you played Demon’s Souls, then you are definitely familiar with this mechanic.
What will change?
First of all, when you switch to NG+, your opponents will become stronger. And the more often you use this feature, the more powerful they will be. The maximum number of enemy buffs can be 7, but you can launch New Game+ infinitely.
Also, many enemies will start giving you more runes for winning. The scales are different, but mostly it’s x2 and x5 of the standard amount. And all NPCs and quests will be reset, which will allow you to restart storylines.
Here are a few more changes:
- Key items that are needed to open locations and complete quests disappear from the inventory.
- You’ll also have to say goodbye to the Great Runes, as well as access to Leindell. Everything will have to be mined anew.
- You can’t level up your character until you meet Melina. The Round Table Fortress is also a bummer.
- Places of Grace disappear from your map and fast travel becomes unavailable until you discover them again.
- Chests, doors and illusionary spheres are dropped.
- Paintings are disappearing.
- The Old Handmaids’ twin bell spheres are disappearing.
- The purebred knight’s medal also disappears.
- Three Finger Meter becomes unavailable (a plus for those who don’t want the ending with her).
What will remain
Your build will remain. Yes, in fact, you will not be able to level up further without meeting Melina, but the distribution of characteristics in NG+ does not change. Therefore, before changing the build, go to Renala Fullmoon in the old game or you will have to speedrun the new one to defeat the boss and open the leveling reset.
Here’s what you’ll have left after starting New Game+:
- Key items (crystal tears, etc.);
- Spells;
- Ashes of creatures;
- Equipment;
- Flow.
- Bell spheres (only those that are not associated with characters);
- Open areas on the map;
- Markers of dungeons, caves and other objects on the map;
- Memories;
- Information from traders;
- Active summoning pools;
- Blessings of the Shadow Realm level (DLC only).
Now you know about all the changes that await you when you launch New Game Plus, and how to enable it. We wish you pleasant replays of the game!
