How to show battery percentage in macOS Big Sur menu bar

Until macOS Big Sur showing the battery charge percentage in the menu bar of our Mac was very simple. A simple click on the icon and an option in the menu that was displayed. Now in Big Sur the steps are somewhat different, although just as easy once we know them .

Show or not show battery percentage

From personal experience I know that keeping an eye on the percentage of battery remaining on a Mac is counterproductive in most cases. If we really are so fair as to want to speed up to 1%, consulting the information will not make it last longer and seeing how the percentage drops with daily use, naturally , it does not seem of enormous relevance either.

For me, Apple’s approach, of hiding the percentage within the menu that opens when you click, well balances the need to consult the information. A glance allows us to see if it is almost empty, almost full or half and a click gives us all the details. That said, if we still want to show the battery percentage in the menu bar, the steps to follow are as follows:

  1. In the Apple menu () we choose System Preferences.
  2. We enter the Dock and menu bar.
  3. In the sidebar we select Battery.
  4. We activate or deactivate the option Show percentage.

That easy. We will see that, as in all versions of macOS, the percentage of remaining battery is displayed next to the graphical representation of the battery itself in the menu bar.

How we can see how much iCloud storage consumes each member of our family

The truth is that in macOS Big Sur we see a continuation of the trend that began with the iPhone X a few years ago: simplifying the battery information until we do not want to consult it expressly. A change that, in fact, is seen in other parts of the system and that eliminates a layer of complexity that, even if it is little, simplifies the information we see while maintaining the option of consulting all that we want at will.
