In today’s guide, in fact, I will show you how to share YouTube videos on Instagram regardless of whether you want to do it on Stories, posts or IGTV. In case you only want to share a link to a YouTube video on Instagram, I will also explain how to do this simple procedure through a function – albeit limited – offered by the famous photo social network.

How to share YouTube videos on Instagram

If you want to know how to share a YouTube video on Instagram, you should know that according to the terms of service of the Google video-sharing platform, it is not possible to download videos. That means that since you can’t share the video via YouTube’s share buttons, you won’t even be able to download the videos and republish them.

Instead, you can share the link of a YouTube video in your posts or in Instagram Stories, although this solution is not very effective as the links are reported as plain text and cannot be opened by clicking on them. You can’t even select the link to copy it and open it in your browser. A different situation, however, concerns the publication of the links in the Instagram Bio.

That said, if you really want to share part of a YouTube video on Instagram, you can try recording the video with your device’s camera or – better yet – directly recording the screen of your smartphone or tablet, in order to extract parts of the video. YouTube movie to repost on Instagram.

However, I recommend that you always ask the creator of the video for permission before sharing it, as you continue to acquire digital content that you do not own.

That said, to record a video with the camera, simply launch the Camera application on your device and record the YouTube video played on your PC screen or on any other device (TV, smartphone or tablet). You can learn more about this by reading my guide on how to make a video with your mobile phone. Alternatively, you can also record the video directly with your Instagram camera.

On the other hand, to record the screen of your smartphone or tablet, the standard functions of these devices are very useful: on Android you just have to activate it by pressing the power button + volume (+) or by touching the corresponding icon in the Notification Center , which can be accessed with a simple swipe from top to bottom near the top edge of the screen. However, keep in mind that not all Android smartphones and tablets are equipped with this feature. If this is the case, you will have to use a screen recording application.

On iOS / iPadOS, you can use Screen Recording (the recording icon) in Control Center. The latter can be accessed on iPhones with one notch sliding down from the top right corner of the screen and on iPhones with a Home button sliding from the bottom to the other. For more information on how to register the screen on Android and iOS / iPadOS, please read this guide.

Finally, if you are the owner of the YouTube video, you can freely publish it on other platforms as well, such as Instagram, following the step-by-step instructions that you will find in the following chapters. They are also valid in case you have recorded the video with your smartphone / tablet, thus publishing the obtained video file, generally in MP4 format.

How to Share YouTube Videos on Instagram Story

To share a YouTube video about Instagram Stories, you have two options: post the video that you got through the tips I gave you in the previous chapter, or use the Swipe Up feature.

The latter is only available if you have a corporate Instagram account and have at least 10,000 followers. In this case, if your Instagram account meets these requirements, all you have to do is press the camera icon on the main Instagram screen to access the Story editor.

Once this is done, enter all the multimedia elements, stickers and text that your Story should contain and then tap the chain icon at the top. In the Other Options section, click Web Links and paste the YouTube video link in the text box provided.

Now, fill in the rest of the fields (if necessary) and then tap the Finish button to confirm the link. To finish, press the Your Story button at the bottom to post your story on Instagram. If you want to know more about this topic, I suggest you consult my guide on how to put links in Instagram stories.

If, on the other hand, you cannot use Instagram’s Swipe Up function, you can directly post a video that you have previously recorded. On the main Instagram screen, then tap on the camera icon and hit the gallery icon in the lower left corner of the Stories editor.

At this point, select the video you want to import, press Next, insert the stickers and text that you want to add to the story, and finish by pressing the Your Story button. If the video must be divided into several parts because it is longer than 15 seconds, click Next and then Share, next to Your Story.

In the Instagram application, click the (+) icon and select the YouTube video in the gallery and click Next, above. At this point, Instagram will detect that the video is longer than 1 minute and you will be shown a box asking if you want to publish it in posts (cutting only 60 seconds of the video) or on IGTV.

In this case, choose the last option (Long Video) and press the Continue button to access the IGTV editor. Choose a frame of the video to be set as the cover image and press the Next button. Now, choose a title and description and hit the Publish button at the top to confirm the publication of the video on IGTV.

Through the official Instagram website the procedure is as easy as for smartphones and tablets. After reaching the link I have provided, log in with your account and click on your profile photo at the top right. Now select the IGTV tab and press the Upload button.

In the section that appears, click the (+) button on the left to import the YouTube video and fill in the form on the right with the title and description. If you want to change the cover, press the Edit button just below the cover section. Finally, hit the Publish button to share the video on IGTV.

How to share YouTube videos on our Instagram bio

If you do not have the Swipe Up function of Instagram and do not want to record a YouTube video using the camera or the screen recording function, the only alternative left is to put the link of the video that interests you in the Biography of your profile of Instagram.

When Instagram users publish a Story, they are used to write the phrase “link in bio”, to indicate to their followers that for the content covered by the Story, the link is present in the biography of their profile. This is a way for those who do not meet the requirements for the “Swipe Up” feature to continue posting links.

That said, the first thing to do is copy the link of the YouTube video: to do this, start the YouTube application, play the video you want to share and press the Share button; At this point, select the Copy Link icon, to copy the link to the clipboard.

Now, open Instagram and tap on your profile picture in the lower right corner. Once you’ve done this, in the section you are heading to, tap the Edit Profile button and paste the video link into the website’s text field. Then touch the ✓ icon at the top to confirm that you have edited your profile bio
