Modern smartphones allow you to distribute the Internet, and the Samsung model range is no exception. We tell you how to do this.
Methods of Internet Sharing on Samsung Smartphones
There are two options:
- As a Wi-Fi router . This way, mobile Internet is distributed to any device that has a Wi-Fi function. This option does not require a USB cable, but there are disadvantages in the form of rapid discharge and a decrease in connection speed with an increase in the number of connected devices:
- As a USB modem . Here, mobile Internet is also used, but the phone is used directly, acting as a transmitter. In this case, the connection speed is higher, and the device is constantly charged. The downside is that you can only give Internet to one device at a time.
Turn your smartphone into a router
Before starting the process, you need to make sure that your mobile Internet is working properly. If the speed is too low or the connection is constantly interrupted, you won’t be able to fully share the network.
How to enable hotspot
There are two ways to enable the hotspot. The first is through the quick settings panel, the second is through the settings.
Let’s look at the method using icons:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Quick Settings panel;
- Find the hotspot icon. Tap and hold it;
- Once you go to the section, find the switch and activate it.
If the icon is missing from the quick settings, use the second option:
- Go to “Settings”;
- Find the “Connections” section;
- At the bottom there is an item called “Mobile hotspot and tethering”, open it;
- Next, go to the “Mobile hotspot” section.
How to connect to an access point
The approach differs depending on the device that will be connected. There are instructions for smartphones and tablets, as well as for a laptop. Let’s start with the former.
Portable devices (except laptops) can be connected in two ways:
- Find the network manually, enter the password to connect;
- Scan the QR code from the device distributing the connection.
To connect manually, the instructions are as follows:
- Activate Wi-Fi on the device, go to the list of available networks, find the name of the distributing smartphone. Click on it;
- Enter the password previously set by the owner of the distributing device;
- Connect.
It is also recommended to activate the “Connect automatically” function. This means that the connection will be established immediately after the access point is turned on and Wi-Fi is activated on the device. To do this, the devices must be at an acceptable distance for connection.
Any adjustments to the access point will result in the second smartphone losing the ability to automatically connect to it. The connection procedure will need to be repeated.
Also note that establishing a connection with a one-time password will not allow a second connection. The device name will remain in the list of available devices, but when attempting to connect, it will say “Incorrect password”.
The second method of connection is much simpler. Using a QR code, connection is provided starting from the Android 8 operating system. The connection is made as follows:
- On the distributing device, you need to go to the “Mobile access point” section;
- At the very bottom there is a button “QR code”, you need to press it (on older models the button is at the top). After that, the code for scanning will appear on the screen;
- The receiving device needs to turn on Wi-Fi, go to this section, select the network name and click on the QR code connection. After that, you just need to scan it on the screen of the distributing device.
Further connection will be carried out automatically.
To establish a connection on a laptop, you need to:
- Find the notification panel (located near the clock in the lower right corner of the screen);
- Click on the Internet or Wi-Fi icon;
- Select the required access point from the list of devices;
- Enter the password for it;
- If there are any recommendations, they must be followed;
When the connection process is complete, the device acting as a router will receive a list of all connected devices. The amount of traffic consumed is also located there, but higher.
Connection via one-time password
The feature is only available for new devices running Android 14.
This option is used to provide access to the mobile Internet one-time, without further automatic connection.
To activate a one-time password, you need to go to the access point settings and find the function of the same name. Then click on its name and a one-time password will appear on the screen. On some models, it is possible to generate a one-time QR code.
Turn your smartphone into a USB modem
Here everything is much simpler:
- Connect your smartphone to a PC or laptop using a USB cable;
- We wait until Windows installs the necessary drivers;
- Go to “Settings” and look for the “Connections” item;
- Select “Mobile hotspot and tethering”;
- Activate the slider opposite “USB modem”.
