Over the past few years, text-to-speech has become more and more popular on platforms like Twitch and Youtube. Text-to-speech allows the user to write a message to the streamer and have it read aloud on the stream. The message is usually read by a robot voice.

In this article, we’re going to show you how to set up text-to-speech donations on your Twitch stream. This will allow you to add an interesting aspect to your broadcast, as well as potentially making a lot more money. Let’s jump.

How to set up text-to-speech donations on Twitch

Typically, text-to-speech is triggered by a donation on your channel. This is what we will cover in this article. However, if you have a smaller channel, you can activate text-to-speech using channel points.

In this example, we’ll show you how to set up text-to-speech using the Streamlabs Alert Window. To set it up, follow these steps:

  • Open the Streamlabs app on your PC.
  • Go to the main scene containing the alert box. Double-click the alert window to open the alert window settings.
  • When your notification window settings open, you can see this new “simplified” version. We want to switch to the old alert window settings. To do this, click on the button “Search for old notification window settings” .
  • Once you’re on the old settings page, click the “+” button next to ” Donations ” and select ” Donor Message ” on the right. Please make sure you have set up a Streamlabs donation page before proceeding.
  • In the properties section, scroll down until you see Text to Speech – Enable TTS . Turn on TTS.
  • If you want to set a minimum amount of text to speech, you can add it to Min. Field Amount to read . We recommend setting this value between $2 and $10 depending on the size of your audience.
  • Click ” Done ” to complete the text-to-speech donations.

You have now successfully set up text-to-speech donations with Streamlabs. When users donate through your Streamlabs donation page, they will be able to leave a message to be read in the stream if the donation meets the minimum donation you select.

Enable spam protection for text-to-speech

If you’ve watched Twitch for a while, you know that people love to abuse the text-to-speech feature. They will either trick the bot into saying something inappropriate, or use an annoying TTS copy-paste that goes on for a long time.

Streamlabs has a built-in feature that allows you to moderate sent messages. It’s not perfect, but we recommend setting it to a medium setting to avoid getting a ton of spam messages.

To enable spam protection, follow these steps:

  • In the settings of the notification window, click “Donations” -> “Donor Message”.
  • Scroll down and move the spam protection slider to medium.

You have now successfully added spam protection to your text-to-speech bot.

How to convert text to speech using bits

Beats are another form of donation on Twitch. Some people find it more convenient to donate bits as they can do so in smaller amounts and don’t need to use a third party payment processor to donate. If you’re a small streamer, we recommend using the text-to-speech bits instead of donations, as you’ll likely attract more people using it.

Follow these steps to enable bitmapped text-to-speech in your stream:

  • Open the Streamlabs app on your PC.
  • Go to the scene with the warning window and double click on it to open the settings.
  • If you are in the new Alert Window Settings, click the Search for Old Alert Window Settings button .
  • Open the beats section and select ” Donor Message ” on the right.
  • Scroll down the selected properties and enable text-to-speech.
  • If you want to set a minimum number of bits to read a message, add it to “Min. Amount to read.
  • Click Done to save your settings.

You have now successfully set up bits text-to-speech on your channel. This is great for smaller streamers to get more donations to their channel and make their stream more interactive.
