Whether you’re a Twitch veteran or a new content creator, you’ve probably heard of the Elgato Stream deck. Stream Deck are cool devices that can make streaming a lot easier, but there’s a catch – they tend to be quite expensive.

Of course, you can always use Stream Deck for mobile devices or find many other alternatives to Stream Deck. These alternatives offer you great ways to save tons of money while still performing the same functions as Stream Deck. Some of these alternatives even offer more features and integrations than the Elgato option!

Of all the alternatives, however, one stands out: LioranBoard .

Editor’s Note: The LioranBoard is currently officially called SAMMI. For more information on the rebrand and transition, click here.

What is LioranBoard?

As you may have guessed, LioranBoard is an alternative to the Elgato Stream deck. However, what makes it so great is the fact that it’s available completely free of charge . That’s right – you don’t have to pay a single penny to use this software.

There are other free alternatives such as Touch Portal. However, if you want more features and more buttons, you will have to upgrade to the pro version. Luckily, this is an affordable one-time purchase. But, if you really don’t want to spend at all, LioranBoard is your best bet.

SAMMI Github page | I wonder why now SAMMI? We will explain below.

LioranBoard is like a streaming deck on steroids. You can use it for everything you normally use the Elgato Stream Deck for, such as switching scenes, muting and unmuting the microphone or sound, hiding or showing the camera and other sources in OBS, etc.

What’s more, you can use LioranBoard to create a more engaging and engaging broadcast experience. Many streamers use LioranBoard as a way to create some really fun channel point exchanges like changing your camera position, changing the background, playing a sound effect, queuing an entire song, playing a video clip, and more. Setting up these repayments is pretty easy if you follow one of the many online guides. You can even use some templates or create your own repayments from scratch.

Looking to earn some extra cash with some of these repayments? You can! You can also make LioranBoard work with beats and subscriptions. Pretty cool, right?

However, one of the disadvantages of LioranBoard is the fact that it only works with OBS Studio. So if you’re a fan of Streamlabs Desktop, you might need to switch. But trust us – it’s worth it – especially now that LioranBoard is in version 2!

Drama and rebranding

Going to the LioranBoard Github page, you will see various links labeled “SAMMI”. By clicking on the old links to the LioranBoard site, you will see that it is permanently down and out of reach for everyone.

What gives?

It is worth noting that since July 2022, LioranBoard has begun rebranding to SAMMI . There has been a lot of drama around the creator and main developer of LioranBoard, Lioran. There has been some drama going on back and forth over the past few months that has caused Lioran to leave the project and rejoin it several times.

For a while it seemed that the development of LioranBoard was completely up in the air, but the passionate community members and moderators who worked on the project managed to create LioranBoard 2 CE (Community Edition).

Statements have been made on the Discord server about the future development of the app, which appears to be in full progress at the moment. As of August 2022, it seems that Lioran has left the project entirely, and the development of SAMMI is in the hands of a dedicated community that continues to support it.

Now that the dust is starting to settle, the SAMMI developers have released the official SAMMI app for you to start enjoying!

LioranBoard developers ended support for LB 1 in March 2022. In August 2022, they released their first rebranded version of SAMMI (formerly LioranBoard 2).

Like LB 1 and LB 2, SAMMI only works with OBS Studio.

LioranBoard 1 had some handy extensions that made it easy to set up your LB streaming deck. However, not all extensions have been switched since the transition to LioranBoard 2. It just means you will have even more exciting features in the future!

Unfortunately, LioranBoard is currently only available for Windows. However, you can make it work on macOS with an application called Wine. Once you have sorted Wineskin, you can proceed to install and use LioranBoard as usual.

How to set up SAMMI to stream on Twitch

Fortunately, setting up SAMMI is not that difficult. Just follow the steps below to get it all up and running!

  • Before you can start using SAMMI with OBS, you must first download OBS Websocket . Make sure OBS is closed and that you are installing it into an existing installation of OBS Studio. Once installed, launch OBS and you will see the Websocket server settings under “Tools” in the top menu bar.

You need to open the WebSockets server settings and uncheck “Enable Authentication” (you can turn it back on later). There is no need to change any other settings as well.

You will see the Websocket settings under “Tools”.

  • Download the latest stable version of SAMMI from this link. You can also select betas if you like, which you can find on the SAMMI Discord server.
  • Once the file has downloaded, unzip it. You may want to place this folder somewhere other than your Downloads folder. You don’t need to install anything as SAMMI will work right out of the box.
  • Open SAMMI Core which is the main component of SAMMI. This is where you can change all your settings, add new decks and modify existing ones, program new buttons and more. The initial launch of SAMMI may cause Windows Firewall to ask if you want to grant it access. Click Allow Access.

  • To connect SAMMI to OBS, open the SAMMI core and click “OBS Connections” at the bottom of the window (see below). Leave everything as default and click Connect . You should see a pop-up window informing you that a WebSocket client has connected. In the SAMMI Core window, the Main OBS indicator will turn green.

You will see the main OBS indicator turn green.

  • From SAMMI Core, you can start customizing your first deck and new buttons. However, remember that SAMMI Core only works as an editor. To actually press the buttons, you need to open SAMMI Deck . Opening the deck will show you the window below. You don’t actually need to change anything since the default URL and port are already set up correctly. Click Connect.
  • By clicking “Connect” you will be able to select a deck to download and change some settings before clicking ” Download Deck “. Once you upload your deck, you will actually receive your virtual streaming deck.
  • Now, to connect SAMMI to your Twitch account, open SAMMI Core. You will see Twitch Connection at the bottom of the window . Click on it to open the Twitch Connections window.

  • This step is best done when you’re offline or you could accidentally expose your Twitch access token to your broadcast! Click on the copy of the URL and open it in a browser, or open the URL directly in a browser. There you will get a window to authorize SAMMI to access your Twitch account.

That’s all! Now you can start fiddling with SAMMI to customize your buttons and triggers. If you want to know more about what you can do with this tool, you can check out their documentation here . In their documentation, you’ll find everything from guides to FAQs and troubleshooting tips.

Don’t forget, you can also search for SAMMI or LioranBoard 2 setup guides on YouTube. Most of the content right now will probably still be dedicated to LioranBoard 2, but the transition to a new name will begin soon after the rebranding is completed.

Summarizing

LioranBoard 1 was a fantastic free stream deck building solution. You could do whatever you wanted with it, and all you really had to do was get a little creative. There were even templates to help you get started.

LioranBoard 2 took a little drama but came out unscathed. Now that the creator of Lioran has disappeared from view, the LB community has begun rebranding to SAMMI, and the future of this great free app is secure.

We hope this guide has helped you understand how to set up SAMMI to stream on Twitch!
