Microsoft Outlook is one of the best clients for receiving and sending emails. To be able to read and send emails, you need to know the outgoing and incoming mail server settings for your email hosting provider. In most cases, Microsoft Outlook automatically detects these settings when you use the automatic configuration method. In other cases, you need to set up your account manually.

Configuring Microsoft Outlook for Private Email Services

This article is about configuring Microsoft Outlook for private email services.

When you set up MS Outlook manually, you need to know:

  1. Your email
  2. Password for this email address
  3. Outgoing mail server name for this email provider
  4. The name of the incoming mail server for this email service provider and
  5. Incoming server port
  6. Outgoing server port
  7. If the ports require any kind of encryption, and if so, what kind of encryption does the server need (SSL, TSL, etc.). Port numbers and encryption type are specified on the Advanced Settings-> Advanced tab .

It is easy to get settings for well-known email service providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. Accordingly, Microsoft Outlook can easily set up such accounts automatically. On the rare occasion that this fails, you need settings for MS Outlook so that you can create accounts manually. Another case in which you need manual configuration settings is when you use private email providers from hosting providers like GoDaddy. Let us check the possible server settings for private email providers.

Configuring MS Outlook for Emails Hosted on GoDaddy

For GoDaddy, the server name is secureserver.net for old email accounts. This means that your email is hosted on secureserver.net and all you have to do is add POP or IMAP depending on the type of account you are setting up. Thus, for old email accounts, the settings will be as follows:

Incoming server: pop.secureserver.net or imap.secureserver.net

Outgoing server: smtp.secureserver.net

Encryption Type: No

New accounts with GoDaddy require a country code as a prefix to secureserver.net . For example, if you are registered in the UK, your email ID may be posted to uk.secureserver.net . In this case, your settings will be:

Incoming server: pop.uk.secureserver.net or imap.uk.secureserver.net

Outgoing server: smtp.uk.secureserver.net

Incoming port number: 110

Incoming encryption: no

Outgoing port number: 25

Outgoing encryption: no

Likewise, if you are registered in Asia, your email id will be hosted at asia.secureserver.net and the incoming email server will be: pop.asia.secureserver.net or imap.asia.secureserver.net

Other private email providers

Details should be available at the email hosting support team. You can try your site’s name though. For example, if you post your email id to mywebsite.com , your email settings might be as follows:

Incoming Server: pop.mywebsite.com or imap.mywebsite.com

Outgoing Server: smtp.mywebsite.com

Incoming port number: 110

Incoming encryption: no

Outgoing port number: 25

Outgoing encryption: no

If the above method does not work, contact your website registrar or email service provider for requirements for setting up Microsoft Outlook for private hosted email.
