How to set a password on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp provides a built-in app lock feature. This can be a password, Face ID, Touch ID (on iOS), or biometric security (on Android). It is also possible to use third-party Android apps if the built-in security is not enough.
Instructions for iPhone
iPhone owners need to follow these steps:
- Open the WhatsApp* app and go to settings;
- Go to the Privacy section and scroll down to App Lock;
-
- Turn on security by choosing Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode;
- Set the automatic lock time (for example, immediately, after 1 minute, 15 minutes or 1 hour).
Make sure in advance that your iPhone settings already have a passcode or biometric unlocking set up.
With the release of iOS 18, Apple has made it even easier — you can now block access to absolutely any app right from your home screen. Here’s how to do it:
- Find the desired icon, click on it and hold for a couple of seconds;
- In the context menu, select the option “Require Face ID”;
- Tap Require Face ID again to confirm.
Instructions for Android
Owners of smartphones running Android OS need to do the following:
- Open WhatsApp* and tap on the three dots in the upper right corner to open the menu;
- Go to Settings > Privacy;
- Scroll down and find “App Lock”;
- Enable the “Biometric identification” option and register your fingerprint if you haven’t done so in your phone settings yet;
- Set the lock timer (immediately, after 1 minute, 30 minutes).
