How to See WiFi Password on Android

In this comprehensive guide, we will tell you in as much detail as possible about the most popular and effective ways to find out your Wi-Fi password on PCs and phones.

A huge plus of devices on the Android operating system is the truly endless number of different ways to get to useful information. There are dozens of applications alone that will tell you the security key from the connected Wi-Fi, not to mention other options. But today we will tell you only about the most effective, proven and safe ways to find out the password from Wi-Fi.

On Android 10 and above

Surprisingly, it is very easy to find a Wi-Fi password on the latest versions of Android without any magic with QR codes, downloading applications, or hassle with root rights.

  • To do this, simply open the “Settings” application, find the “Network and Internet” line, and then click on the “Wi-Fi” column.
  • Now the program will take you to a list of available networks, among which the one we need is hidden.
  • Click on it and select the Share button below the title or status.
  • At this point, your phone will probably ask you for a password, a fingerprint scan, Face ID, or something similar—just confirm your identity.
  • The app will show you a QR code so you can share the network with others, but that’s not what we’re interested in. Just below that is a small line labeled “Network Password”, where the security key you’re looking for is hidden.

A little tip. You can find the Wi-Fi section on your Android smartphone in several ways. The easiest one is to open the curtain at the top of the screen and press the Wi-Fi icon, holding your finger for a few seconds. This way you won’t have to look for the necessary tab in the phone settings.

On Android 10+ on Samsung Galaxy

Any Samsung Galaxy is the same Android smartphone, but with one small difference. The Koreans put their OneUI shell on top of the operating system, so there are some differences in the interface and the location of the settings. This also affected the method of how to find the Wi-Fi password, which we talked about above.

  • Launch the phone settings app and select search. Type in “Wi-Fi”, “wifi” or “Connections” to get to the menu you need. Or you can just find it in the general list of settings. Another option is to launch the network settings through the curtain at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the gear icon next to the name of the desired Wi-Fi network and select the QR code in the lower left corner of the screen.
  • On the page that opens, select the “Save as image” button to download the barcode to the gallery.
  • Use Google Photos or Google Lens to scan the downloaded image and find out the password encrypted in it.

Google Lens doesn’t always focus on the QR code correctly, so try resizing it if you get an error. Zoom in or out until you can read the encrypted password. It will appear at the bottom of the screen, below the image.

On Android 6–9 without root rights

The problem with smartphones on older versions of Android is the lack of a QR code generation function, so you won’t be able to get a WiFi password this way. There are separate applications for this, but they all require a security key, which we don’t have. However, you can try to take an additional device and make a QR code from it.

To scan, use Google Lens or Google Photos. Open them from the list of applications or from the widget icon on the screen and select the image of the code from the gallery. Or press “Search with camera” if the QR code is on another smartphone or printed on paper.

On Android 4.4–9 with root rights

Another option for finding out the password on an older version of Android is root rights. It is best if you already have the TWRP program installed, through which Magisk is configured for root access. In this case, you can simply use one of the many applications on Google Play to find out the password. The best of them is WiFi Password Viewer from the developer SimoneDev.

  • When you first turn on the program, you will be asked to grant it superuser rights. Agree to this in the window that opens.
  • WiFi Password Viewer will immediately take you to a list of all WiFi networks you have ever connected your phone to. Each of them will already have a security key listed.
  • You can also share any of these passwords by clicking on the network name from the list. A menu will appear where you need to select “Copy password”, “Share” or “QR”.
