Ever since Instagram introduced the ability to create stories , you spend a lot of time watching what your friends and everyone else you follow share. The only problem is that, in some cases, you may not always be able to view them, since after 24 hours from their publication they are automatically removed. As if this were not enough, Instagram does not integrate a button that allows you to save and view them at a later time and, therefore, you have realized that you are missing out on a bunch of content that you think is potentially interesting.
What if I told you that it is possible to remedy the situation through unofficial solutions? Yes, you read that right! If you want to know how to save the Instagram stories of others , know that it is possible to do this in several ways: by taking a screenshot or screen recording of the photos or videos that make up the story, or by downloading applications or browser extensions that allow you to save Instagram stories locally. Furthermore, as I will explain to you in the next chapters of this tutorial, you can also do it by making use of special online services. You will find everything explained below: happy reading and good work.

Save Instagram Stories via Screenshots
Taking a screenshot of the screen is the first solution you might consider, to save the Instagram stories of others . This method, while being somewhat “artisanal”, is quite effective, as long as the story does not contain videos, of course.
In this regard, to carry out this operation on Android and iOS , you can take advantage of the native functionality of your device, in order to complete this operation simply and quickly.
In fact, on Android , you should be able to take a screenshot of the screen by simultaneously pressing the Volume down key (-) and the on / off key of your device. Or, in case this key combination doesn’t allow you to take a screen capture, you should do it by pressing the Volume Down (-) key and the Home key at the same time .
In any case, if you find it difficult to take a screenshot on your device, do not hesitate to read my guide in which I will explain in more detail how to do it on Android .
Instead, if you have an iPhone with Face ID , you can take a screen capture by pressing the right side button and the volume up (+) button at the same time . If you use an iPhone with Touch ID and side button , however, to take a screenshot you have to press the Home button and the standby / wake button of the phone at the same time.

Save Instagram Stories via Screen Recording
If, on the other hand, the story consists of a video, you can save it by making a screen recording from Android and iOS , using the appropriate native functionality of your device, if present.
In this regard, on Android , if for example you own a Huawei smartphone , you can use the special Record Screen tool . Therefore, start it via the key combination Volume Up + Power off key , or activate this feature from the Notification Center , by pressing the Record Screen button .
Once this is done, after a short countdown, everything that is visible on the screen of your smartphone will be recorded, so all you have to do is start the Instagram app , to record the story you are interested in saving. At any time, you can stop the screen recording by pressing the Stop button located at the top.
Even on iPhone , you can take advantage of the default feature – this is called Screen Recording and is available on iOS 11 and later.
Therefore, after making sure you have enabled the feature in question in the Settings> Control Center > Screen Recording menu , bring up the iOS Control Center (swipe from top to bottom from the top right corner on iPhone with Face ID or swipe from bottom to top starting from the center, on iPhone with Touch ID) and press the Rec button .
Again, the recording will start after a short countdown; therefore you have the time to start the Instagram app and view the story of your interest, in order to save it, by recording a video containing what is displayed on the screen of your device. To stop recording the screen, press on the red indicator at the top and tap on the Stop item .

App to save the Instagram stories of others
If you want to save all the content in the stories posted on Instagram by your friends, you could also try smartphone applications that allow you to do this.
These solutions, although not in any way connected to the social network, work quite well and, thanks to them, it is possible to save both images and videos. However, as you can guess, they only work with stories created by public accounts and not with those of private profiles , since in this specific case you need to be a follower of the person for whom you want to view the story.
Furthermore, I would like to clarify that, since these are unofficial apps , they must be used only in case of strict necessity, to avoid potential privacy risks, especially if you need to log in to your Instagram account .
Save Stories (Android)
Save Stories is one of the most popular apps for users who want to save Instagram Stories on their Android device .
This app, in fact, is basic free, as well as simple to use; however, it has advertising banners which, if necessary, can be removed by purchasing the paid version, at a one-off cost of € 2.39. You can download it from the Play Store , but if you have a device without Google services, check if it is available on some alternative store .
Having said that, after installing and starting Save Stories , accept the privacy policy by placing the check mark in the appropriate box, then press the Agree button .
At this point, tap the Login with Instagram button ; then, tap on Accept and log in to your Instagram account , so you can view and download the stories of the people of your interest.
Once logged in, presses the magnifying glass symbol (top right), search for the user of interest by means of his username (without @ ) and then select the correct account, among the search results that you receive show yourself.
Once this is done, select the Story tab (which is located at the top), tap on the multimedia preview of the content of your interest and then press the Download button to download the story on your device.
iStory (iOS / iPadOS)
Do you use an iPhone or an iPad and, for this reason, you wonder how to save the Instagram stories of others on the iPhone ? Don’t worry, even for Apple devices there are many applications that allow you to save Instagram stories in a few taps.
One of the best on the market is iStory which allows you to view and download the contents of Instagram stories from public accounts on iOS and iPadOS . It’s free, but to get rid of the advertising you need to take out a subscription which costs € 4.49 one-time.
After installing and starting iStory via the App Store , the first thing you need to do to download the stories is to log in to your Instagram account by pressing the Login with Instagram button .
Once this is done, you can search for the account of your interest: then type in its username using the Search button and the search engine and tap on the corresponding result in the menu that is shown to you.
Now, tap on the Story tab , press on the preview of one of the contents that may be available and download it: to do this, press the button (…) located in the upper right corner, tap on the word Download present in the menu displayed and grant iStory access to the media files on your device.
Save others’ Instagram stories on PC
As with mobile devices, even on the PC it is possible to download Instagram stories with unofficial solutions, such as extensions for the most used browsers .
In this regard, since these have access to social network data, I recommend that you use them only if strictly necessary and delete them as soon as you no longer need them.
Even in this case, in fact, the same recommendations provided previously apply since, in general, the use of unofficial extensions for the browser could represent a potential risk for privacy.
Story Saver (Chrome / Edge / Opera)
Story Saver is a free extension for Chrome (also compatible with Edge Chromium and Opera ) that offers the possibility to download Instagram stories in an extremely simple and fast way. Let me explain how it works.
To start, start Google Chrome (or one of the other compatible browsers ) on your PC, go to the Chrome Web Store page that allows you to download the add-on and press the Add and Add extension buttons .
Subsequently, log in to your Instagram account from the browser in use and go to the profile of the user of your interest: just search for it using the search bar at the top of the page and click on the corresponding search result.
Next, open the story you intend to download, by clicking on the profile photo of the account of your interest and press on the Story Saver icon located at the top right (if you do not see the extension icon, click on the symbol of the puzzle piece at the top right and select the pin icon , to show the Story Saver extension in the foreground), to download the multimedia content displayed.
At this point, you just have to wait for the automatic download for the photo or video in the story to complete. If you haven’t changed your PC settings, the output file will be saved in the Downloads folder .
When you have finished using the extension, click on it with the right mouse button and press the Remove button .
Video DownloadHelper (Firefox / Chrome / Edge / Opera)
Video DownloadHelper is another extension you can consider, especially if you want to download videos featured in Instagram Stories.
Available for Firefox and Chrome (and also working with Edge and Opera ), it allows you to “capture” all the videos played within the Web pages, including the videos present in the Instagram stories: now I’ll explain how to use it.
If you are using Mozilla Firefox , click on this link to reach the Video DownloadHelper download page and add the add-on to your browser by clicking on the Add to Firefox and Install buttons .
Then access your Instagram account from Firefox , click on the story you want to save and press on the Video DownloadHelper icon located at the top right. In the box that appears, click on the arrow symbol pointing down, press the button Use the browser in the box that appears and wait for the download to be completed.
If you use Google Chrome (or Microsoft Edge or Opera ), however, you can download Video DownloadHelper by connecting to this link and clicking on the Add and Add extension buttons . Then access your Instagram account from your browser, select the story you want to save and click on the Video DownloadHelper icon located at the top right.
In the box that appears, then click on the down arrow symbol , press the button Use the browser in the next confirmation menu displayed and wait for the download to be completed automatically.
At the end of use, uninstall the extension by pressing on it with the right mouse button and then click on the Remove button .
Save the Instagram stories of others online
Another solution that you can use, to save the Instagram stories of others, is the use of online services , which allow you to view such multimedia content anonymously, also allowing you to download them on your device.
In this regard, below you will find an example of some of the best tools suitable for the purpose but, for more information, you can read my tutorial on how to watch stories on Instagram without being seen .
InstaStories
The first solution you can use to save the Instagram stories of others online is the InstaStories site which, thanks to its simple and minimal user interface, allows you to see the multimedia contents published in the stories of public profiles to be able to download them on your device.
Having said that, to use it, connected to its main page , type, in the text field that is shown to you, the username of the user of your interest (without the @ symbol ) and then press the Enter key on the keyboard.
Now, in the next screen you see, click on the Stories tab , then press on the preview image of the story to see and download it to your device by clicking on the Download button which is located in the upper right corner.
Instadp
Another online service useful for viewing and downloading the stories of others on Instagram is the one offered by the Instadp website which, among its many tools, also has a useful tool to enlarge the Instagram profile photo .
You can also use it to download Instagram Stories , and in fact, after connecting to its official website , click on the Instagram Stories Downloader feature .
Once this is done, in the Username text field , type the username of the person you are interested in and press the button with the magnifying glass icon to confirm the search.
Once this is done, press the Continue button to view the profile of the user of your interest and then locate the story you want to download among those published within the last 24 hours.
Finally, to download the photo or video, all you have to do is press the Download button , in order to save the multimedia content via the browser: press the right mouse button on the file in question and, finally, click on the item Save image as or Save video as .
