How to retrieve a sent email

Can sent emails be recovered ? That is the big question that many ask, either by mistake or because we gave it to send quickly without checking first, sometimes we send emails to people who should not receive them or were not addressed to them.

To avoid these unpleasant situations, it is always advisable to check at least 2 times to which person we are going to send a certain email , if it is more than one, verify that we are using CCO, so you can be more calm knowing that the email is received by whoever should.

These checks are not always made and when we find out, we have sent an email that we should not have sent, in some very specific case it can be recovered so that the person does not read it, but most email providers do not allow this possibility .

In Gmail

There is a difference between two circumstances, wanting to retrieve an email sent after a while or being able to retrieve it within seconds of having sent it. In Gmail , the first option is not possible, the second option is possible with the activation of a parameter.

If Gmail is your favorite email provider, you should know that once you have sent an email to a person, you will not be able to retrieve it after a few minutes. That is, it will reach the person and they will be able to read it, even if you finally made a mistake and it was not addressed to them.

However, in Gmail you can activate a setting that allows you to undo the sending of emails after a few seconds, its activation is highly recommended because you can cancel the sending so that the recipient never receives it, what happens is that it will be like not you have sent. This is what you must do to enable the tweak:

  • Enter Gmail, click on the gear icon and then on “see all settings.”
  • Without leaving the “general” tab, look for the option “undo the shipment” , put 30 seconds, which is the maximum time.
  • Finally, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “save changes.”

From the hour, every time you go to send an email, you will have a total of 30 seconds to cancel your shipment before it is actually sent and reaches the recipient, surely you will use this possibility on more than one occasion. After that time it will be impossible to recover it.

In Outlook or Hotmail web version

If you have a Hotmail or Outlook email account , you will not be able to retrieve emails sent through the web version either. That is, once you have sent it, there will be no way to retrieve the message, so pay special attention before clicking “send”.

There is no option like in Gmail that allows you to undo the sending, as soon as you click on “send”, the mail is sent and in a few moments it will reach the recipient who will take more or less to read it or who will simply never read it, that you will never be able to know unless I inform you.

Through Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is the email client of the Office 365 suite and many use it to manage their Hotmail emails and even other supported providers from here. Sent from here, there is some possibility of recovering them once sent .

Of course, it will only work if the recipient has not yet read the message , so you will have to act quickly and just a few seconds or 1 minute after sending it since once it has been read, you only have to inform that person that the message was not for her. Open Outlook 365 and do the following:

  • Enter the sent messages tray and double click on the message you just sent. A new window opens, now click on the “actions” option and then on “ retrieve this message ”.
  • Check the option “delete unread copies of this message” and also the box “report the success of the recovery for each recipient.” Click on accept and that’s it.

What Outlook does from that moment on is to delete the email you have sent from the recipient’s email inbox , although in this case it will only be able to do so if the message has not really been read. That is why it is something you should do quickly.

In any case, avoid using this tool because this possibility is not always executed successfully, that is, it is more likely that you will not be able to recover the sent mail , so in the future, take a good look at what you send and who will receive it first. to send it.
