How To restore the factory settings of HomePod or HomePod mini

The HomePod or HomePod mini , like all Apple devices, may at some point require us to restore and erase them completely to leave them as the first time we took them out of the box. Whether it’s to fix a bug in the software or to give away or sell the device, it’s good to know how.

Restore in the Home app or directly on the speaker

In the case of the HomePod, which lacks buttons , the process of restoring it can be difficult to find or deduce, but it is also one of the simplest. We have a couple options to restore a HomePod that apply to both the original version and its mini variant and another only for the mini. Let’s see them.

The first option is to use the Home app. While we use a HomePod it depends on the Home app to update, configure, etc., as well as to restore itself. The steps are the following:

  1. We open the House app on our iPhone or iPad.
  2. We enter the Homesection .
  3. We hold down the HomePod that we want to restore.
  4. We scroll down to see the options.
  5. We tapon Remove accessory or Reset HomePod …

HomePod will reboot and begin erasing all of its content. The process may take several minutes, and then normal pairing will begin. At this point, we can either unplug the HomePod, or continue the pairing to reconfigure it.

Sometimes HomePod may not appear in the Home app due to an error. In this case we can also restore it, the process will be done directly on the same speaker:

  1. We unplugged the HomePod from the power.
  2. We plug the HomePod back to power.
  3. We press and hold the button on the top of the HomePod.
  4. The rotating white light on the HomePod will turn red and Siri will alert us that the HomePod is about to reset.
  5. We stop pressing when we hear three pips.

Keep in mind not to remove your finger until step 5 , the wait can be a bit long, but if we lift it we will have to start the process again.

Finally, in the case of the HomePod mini we have another resource when it comes to resetting the speaker. Thanks to its USB-C connection we can use a Mac to complete the process. In this case the steps are as follows:

  1. We plugged the HomePod mini into our Mac.
  2. We open a new Finderwindow .
  3. Once the HomePod appears in the sidebar, under Locations, we click on it.
  4. We tapon Restore HomePod .

After the restoration process, we simply unplug the speaker from our computer. Remember that if we want to reconfigure it to continue using it, we must plug it in using the charger that is included, since the connection with a Mac does not offer enough electrical power for the HomePod to work.

It should be said that if these methods do not work, for whatever reason, the best option is to go to an Apple Store , after making an appointment, or call Apple Care (900 150 503) so they can help us.

In general the operation of the HomePod and HomePod mini is smooth and without interruptions. Given its apparent low complexity, the solution to most errors that can occur is restoration, a process that, as we have seen, is very simple
