How to restore a WhatsApp backup from Google Drive on Android or iPhone?

Also remember that you must configure the app so that backups are stored in Google Drive through a Google account. This way you can restore all your conversations, even if you do it from a different device.

To begin, you must delete the WhatsApp application from your Android mobile or iPhone . Then you must reinstall it. To do this, you can get it from the official Play Store or Apple Store respectively, or do it from the official site.

Open the WhatsApp app and add your phone number to log in with your account, click on next and verify the number with the six-digit code that you received by SMS or by voice call.

When prompted to Restore Backup to recover your conversations and multimedia files on your device stored in Google Drive do so. The best thing is that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network , as these files are usually quite heavy.

The restoration process may take a few minutes, this will depend exclusively on the size of the file that is being downloaded. When finished click on Next.

Now you can see all your conversations on the main WhatsApp screen.

How to restore a local backup

Backups are automatically saved locally to your device, either to internal storage or to an SD card daily at 2am and saved as files.

It is important that you know that your device stores only the backups of the last seven days in the / sdcard / WhatsApp / folder . You can see it from the file manager of your mobile .

To restore a backup saved locally you must delete WhatsApp from your mobile and reinstall it. When you do, enter your phone number and verify your account with the six-digit code that was just sent to you.

When prompted to Restore, click on it and choose local storage . When the process is finished you will be able to see all your conversations there on the main WhatsApp screen.

How to restore an old local backup

If what you are looking for is to restore an older backup you must enter the file manager. Find the folder sdcard / WhatsApp / Databases.

If your copies are stored on an SD card you may see other folders such as Internal storage or main storage instead of Scard.

Rename the last backup or backup you want to restore from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12 .

Now you must delete WhatsApp from your mobile and reinstall it. When you touch Restore, click on this button and wait for the file to finish downloading. You will then be able to see all the restored conversations in the Chats tab.
