- How to report a TikTok account
- How to block a TikTok account
Before we get to the heart of this tutorial and explain how to ban a TikTok account , let me give you some preliminary information in this regard.
First of all, you must know that only the staff of the famous Chinese social network can decide to permanently suspend or ban an account following the violation of the TikTok guidelines (eg publication of offensive content, threats, incitement to violence and hatred, etc. ).
Users who, on the other hand, send massive comments and messages or put into practice other techniques just to have more followers on TikTok (e.g. follow and stop following different profiles in a short time), could run into what is called Shadow Ban , that is a temporary penalty that results in the exclusion of your content from the For You section of TikTok.
Therefore, if you have received inappropriate messages or comments or want to ban a user who in your opinion is violating the terms of the service, you cannot do it directly. However, you can decide to report a user or a single content so that the staff of the famous social network can intervene and possibly decide to suspend or permanently block the account of the reported user.
Alternatively, you can simply block a user so that they can no longer view your profile and, as a result, send you private messages, add comments and interact with your content, until you decide to unblock them. Is everything clear so far? Well, then let’s take action.
How to report a TikTok account
All you need to do to report a TikTok account is to access the profile of the user of your interest and select the option to submit a new report.
To proceed, take your smartphone or tablet and start the TikTok app for Android (also available on alternative stores , for devices without Google services) or iPhone / iPad . After logging into your account, press the magnifying glass icon , at the top right, search for the user you wish to report by writing his name in the Search field and tap on his name in the search results.
If the user in question has interacted with one of your content, you can also access his account by pressing on the Inbox item located in the bottom menu. On the All activities screen , locate the user of your interest and tap their name . If, on the other hand, you have received a private message, tap on the paper airplane icon and, after selecting the chat of your interest among those available in the Direct messages section , press on the name of the user to report.
Regardless of the procedure you followed to access the profile of the user you intend to report, tap on the three dots icon , at the top right, and select the Report option . In the new screen displayed, then click on the item Report the account and indicate the reason for your report by choosing one of the options available between Publishing inappropriate content , Is pretending to be someone else , Inappropriate profile information , the user may have less than 13 years , Intellectual Property Infringement and Other .
On the Report a reason screen , further specify the reason for your report (eg Hate speech , Fraud and scams , Spam etc.) and tap the Send button , to report the user in question to TikTok.
If, on the other hand, you want to report a single content, you must know that the procedure varies according to the type of content you intend to report.
- Video: press the three dots icon at the bottom right and select the Report option . In this regard, my guide on how to find a video on TikTok may be useful .
- Comments: make a long tap on the comment to report and then choose the item Report from the opened menu.
- Live: to report a live video, tap the right arrow icon and press the Report item .
- Messages: access the chat of your interest, press the three dots icon , at the top right, and choose the Report option .
- Sounds and Hashtags: from the Discover section of TikTok, press on the sound / hashtag to report, tap on the arrow icon pointing to the right and, in the new screen displayed, press on the Report sound / Report item .
At this point, regardless of the content you intend to report, specify the reason for your report and, in the Report screen , click on the Send button . The message Thank you for reporting will confirm that you have successfully sent your report. In addition, in this screen you can also block a TikTok account , by pressing on the items Block [username] and Block .
Finally, it will be useful to know that by accessing the Inbox section of your TikTok account, pressing on the All activities item and selecting the From TikTok and Reports options , you can view the history of all the reports you have made.
If you prefer to report an account or content on TikTok from a computer , connect to the main page of the social network and log in to your account. Once this is done, identify the user of your interest by writing their name in the Search account or user field at the top or by accessing the Inbox (the bubble icon ) or Messages (the paper airplane icon ) sections of your account.
From the profile screen of the user you wish to report, click on the three dots icon at the top right and select the Report option from the opened menu. Then put the check mark next to the Report account option , click on the Next button , specify the reason for your report and click on the Send item .
Also in this case, you can report a single content and the procedure is almost identical to what I have indicated to do it from smartphones and tablets using the TikTok app.
For example, to report a video, all you have to do is click on the Report button visible on the video itself, specify the reason for the report and click on the Send option . Simple, right?
How to block a TikTok account
To block a TikTok account , start the app of the famous social network and, if you have not already done so, log in to your account. Then press on the magnifying glass icon , at the top right, write the name of the user you want to block in the Search field and, in the search results, tap on the name of the user in question, in order to access his profile.
If the user you want to block has interacted with your content, you can also access the screen related to his profile by pressing on the Inbox item located in the bottom menu and, in the All activities screen , by tapping on his name .
If, on the other hand, the user to be blocked has contacted you via private message, access the Inbox section of your account, press the paper airplane icon , to access the Direct messages section , open the chat with the user to be block and tap on the name of the latter displayed at the top.
At this point, from the profile of the user you want to block, press the three dots icon , at the top right, select the Block option from the opened menu and tap the Confirm button , to confirm your intention and block the account in question.
As I indicated in the chapter on how to report a TikTok account , you should know that you can block a user even after having reported his profile or a single piece of content. To do this, click on the Block [username] item visible in the Thanks for reporting screen and click on the Block button .
I remind you that a blocked user can neither view and interact with your content nor send you private messages. In turn, you cannot view his posts and start a new chat.
In case of second thoughts, you can unlock a user by accessing their profile screen, pressing the three dots icon and tapping the Unblock item . Alternatively, press the Profile item located in the bottom menu, tap the ☰ button and select the Privacy and Blocked Accounts options .
In the new screen displayed you will see all the users you have previously blocked: by pressing the Unblock button for a single user, you can unblock it and go back to viewing and interacting with its contents (and vice versa).
Finally, I would like to point out that it is possible to block and unblock a user only from the TikTok app for smartphones and tablets. Consequently, if your intention is to proceed from a computer , I am sorry to tell you that this is not possible.
