how to remove the gotelé without too much effort

Decades ago, having gotelé on the walls was very common. However, fashion has changed, and now the most common is that these are smooth surfaces. If you are thinking of giving your home a more modern touch and want to remove the gotelé from the walls, today’s post is going to be very useful, because we are going to explain how to remove the gotelé without too much effort . Shall we start?

STEP 1: did I drip plastic or temper?

Before you start scraping the walls, you have to make sure which rooms are painted with tempera and which ones with plastic. Since, depending on this, the technique to remove the gotelé will be different.

To find out, you just have to rub the grain with a cloth soaked in water. If the paint falls apart, it is tempera. On the contrary, if it remains intact, it is plastic.

And now that you have identified the tempera and plastic areas, the time has come to work.

STEP 2: covers floor and doors

Before you take the sandpaper and start removing the gotelé, be sure to cover both the floor and doors, trim and furniture. And it is that during sanding a lot of dust will be raised and it can stain and spoil it.

STEP 3: how to remove the gotelé de tempera

And now yes, the time has come to remove the gotelé. For rooms painted with gotelé paint, it is necessary to use an eco-stabilizer diluted in water, thus obtaining a homogeneous mass.

When you have it, apply the product all over the wall, helping you with a roller.
We start by eliminating the tempera gotelé. We dilute the eco-stabilizer in 10% water and mix it, obtaining a homogeneous mass.

Then spray water all over the surface and allow a few minutes for the paint to soften.

After about 10/15 minutes, you can start to remove the gotelé with the help of a scraper.

It is more than possible that in some areas it will be more difficult for you to remove the gotelé. In these cases, spray water again on the area to be treated and scratch again until you remove the gotelé.

STEP 4: remove the plastic gotelé

The plastic paint gotelé is much more resistant than tempera and therefore also more difficult to remove. For this reason, to get a smooth wall you need to cover them with a specific cover paste.

Once the paste is ready, we will apply it with the roller, vertically, horizontally and also diagonally, covering the gotelé as well as possible. With this paste a thickness of about 3 or 4 millimeters is achieved, more than enough to cover the finest gotelé. In case the drop is larger, the solution is to apply more layers, as many as necessary to cover the entire grain.

Once done, it is time to smooth the walls. For this you need a trowel that removes any traces of gotelé and the surface is completely smooth. Then, it is time to let the paste dry and when it is done, sand the imperfections.

STEP 5: primer coat

Whatever the technique used, the last step in tempera or plastic is to cover the walls with a primer coat with a fixing background, which is nothing more than sealing the wall and preparing it for the next decoration.

And now that you’ve effortlessly removed the gotelé, how are you going to decorate your walls? Paint or wallpaper? ¿ Wallpaper or paint ? Find out how to decorate your wall to give it the life it needs.
