How to remove Opera browser from your computer

If you, like me, one day got wildly fed up with bugs, freezes and other problems with loading pages in Opera – it’s time to delete this browser. And no, you don’t have to look for a solution to the problems, because now there is such a huge selection of other convenient browsers, where all the necessary extensions work, there are no freezes and other annoying things in work.

Note : We will be talking about the standard version of Opera, not Opera GX, however, removing the second option will be exactly the same.

The article provides detailed information on how to completely remove the Opera browser from your computer or laptop.

How to uninstall Opera on Windows

In Windows, you can remove an annoying browser in a few simple step

  • Click on the “Start” button;
  • Then press 2 keys: Win+I;
  • Next, the “Options” window will appear – here we need the “Applications” item;
  • Scroll down and find Opera (to my surprise, I had two versions of the browser installed);
  • Next, click on this program and press “Delete”.
  • The Opera browser installer will appear in front of you – click Uninstall;
  • You will be asked about the reason for the deletion: you don’t have to answer, but you can complain (that’s what I did);
  • Then a window will pop up asking you if you really want to delete the browser and all the data in it, click Yes;
  • Hooray! The browser has been removed from your Windows computer/laptop.

For Windows 8 and earlier, you need to open Control Panel, not Settings

  • After opening the Control Panel, find the item “Add or Remove Programs”;
  • Next, we find the Opera browser;
  • Click on it with the left mouse button and find the “Delete” button a little higher;
  • Click on delete and Opera will disappear from your computer.

You can completely clean up all your browser files using additional software like CCleaner.

For this:

  • Open CCleaner;
  • Click the Registry tab and select all items in it;
  • Next, click “Search for problems” and confirm the fix in the item on the bottom right — “Fix selected…”.

You can also remove the Opera browser using the same program:

  • Open CCleaner;
  • On the side, in the “Tools” tab, find “Uninstall a program”;
  • Then in this list we find Opera and click the button on the right “Uninstall”.

Don’t confuse the button with “Remove”, because this action will only remove Opera from the list of programs.

After that, you will see the Opera installer again, where you need to click “Delete” and check the box “Delete my Opera user data”. For complete peace of mind, you can also clean the registry (instructions just above).

How to Uninstall Opera on MacOS

On this operating system, there are two ways to remove the browser.

  • On the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, find the Opera icon;
  • Hold it down with LMB and drag it to the Trash.

Additionally, you can clean it up to finally get rid of Opera files.

Finder

  • Open Finder from the toolbar;
  • Next, on the left, click “Programs” and look for Opera in the list;
  • Right-click on the browser and select “Move to Trash”.

The final touch will be to clear the trash from the browser and files. This way, your gadget on MacOS will be freed from glitches and Opera bugs.
