IrfanView
Another tool you can consider relying on to reduce JPG size for free on Windows is IrfanView . It is a totally free and easy to use software that acts first of all as an image viewer, but which also integrates a whole series of useful tools and functions to resize and compress photos, even acting in batches.
To download the program on your PC, go to its website and press the Download button that you find in correspondence with the 64-bit or 32-bit item (depending on the version of Windows you are using).
When the download is complete, open the .exe file obtained and, in the window you see appear on the desktop, click on the Yes , Next (four consecutive times) and Done buttons , to complete the setup.
By default, the program does not have an interface translated into Italian. To remedy this, you must also download the translation file by visiting this other web page and clicking on the Installer link that you find in the Italian entry. Then, close the IrfanView window displayed on the screen, open the .exe file you just obtained and, in the screen that appears on the desktop, click on the Yes , Install and OK buttons .
Then restart the software using the shortcut added on the desktop, then select the Options menu located at the top of the IrfanView window that is shown to you, click on the Change language item , select Italian from the list of available languages and press on the OK button .

Alternatively, you can resize the image by defining the percentage, megapixels, choosing one of the available presets and adjusting the various other available settings related to resampling, aspect ratio etc.
Then, click on the OK button and save the modified photo by clicking on the File menu and on the item Save (original folder) (to overwrite the source file) or Save as (to create a modified copy of the image).
If, on the other hand, what you are interested in doing is cropping the image, indicate the area of the same you want to leave unchanged by drawing a selection rectangle, click on the Options menu , choose the item JPG crop without losses from the latter, indicate the folder where you want to save the output file by pressing the Browse button in the window that opens and press the Start button .

Preview
Preview is the default macOS application through which it is possible to view images and PDF files and make some basic changes to the graphic files that are given “at the table”. Given its characteristics, it is also useful for carrying out the operation covered by this tutorial.
To use it for your purpose, double-click on the icon of the JPG file you wish to act on, in order to open it directly in Preview. If a different program opens in doing this, it is evidently because Preview is no longer the default application for managing images. Subsequently, if you need to intervene on multiple images, call up the sidebar with the thumbnails of the Preview window, by clicking on the View menu located at the top left and on the Thumbnails item that you find in the menu that opens. Now, if you want to reduce the size of the image, click on the Tools menu , then on the Adjust size item present in it and intervene on the options attached to the panel that opens to indicate the dimensions you want to assign to the photo, specifying height and width, the resolution or by choosing one of the available presets. If you are looking for some other solution by which you can reduce JPG size on Mac , I strongly suggest that you consider using ImageOptim . It is a free and specific application for Apple-branded computers which, as can be easily deduced from the name itself, allows you to compress images in JPG format, as well as PNG and GIF.
To download it to your Mac, visit the program’s website and click on the Download for Free button located in the center.
When the download is complete, extract the resulting compressed archive and drag the software icon to the Applications folder of macOS. Then right-click on it and select the Open item twice in a row, in order to circumvent the restrictions applied by Apple to non-certified developers (an operation that must be carried out only at the first start).
