The WiFi password is not used regularly. Once you’ve set up WiFi you don’t really need it. This is the main reason why so many people completely forget about it. Fortunately, there are several ways to recover a forgotten WiFi password and if you continue reading this article, you will find the solution that suits your needs!

  1. Option 1: Find WiFi Password on Notebook
  2. Option 2: Recover Lost Wi-Fi Password on Windows
  3. Option 3: Recover Forgotten WiFi Password on Mac
  4. Option 4: View Wi-Fi Password on iPhone, iPad
  5. Option 5: View Wi-Fi Password on Android

Option 1: Find WiFi Password on Notebook

Most people write down the WiFi password on their Notebook. It is one of the best and easiest ways to recover the WiFi password or any other type of password. All you have to do is write down the password in a notepad or you can type it in the Notepad app on your device and save it in a specified location. If you have forgotten or just need to use that password, you can simply retrieve it from there.

It’s very simple and you don’t have to depend on an app or waste time figuring out where the password is saved on your device. Without a doubt, this is the best and most responsible way to recover passwords and it works on all types of devices. But sadly, if you didn’t write it down in the first place, it’s useless! However, it’s better late than never!

Option 2: Recover Lost Wi-Fi Password on Windows

If you have lost the Wi-Fi password for your Windows PC, here you will find a quick way to recover it. There are several free programs that can help you. Among these we point out two.

The first program is WiFi Password Recovery and it’s really simple to use. Once installed and started automatically it will show all the wifi networks and the relative passwords (obviously those passwords that have been saved at least once in the PC)

Another free and effective tool to recover WiFi passwords on PC is  PassFab Wifi Key.

Download and install this free software on your Windows computer. You will see the list of Wi-Fi networks on the main screen:

Now you will have to select the Wi-Fi network whose password you want to recover and finally click on the “ Export ” button to save the list of networks and their passwords in a csv file on your computer.

Option 3: Recover Forgotten WiFi Password on Mac

If you have a Mac computer, you can use the following method to recover lost Wi-Fi password . Basically, the Mac comes with an app that can help you in the process. Here are the details:

Step 1: Open Finder and go from there.

Step 2: Go to the applications folder .

Step 3. Search and open the “ Access Keychain ” app and a screen like this will open:

Step 4 : Go to the router list and here look for the Wifi network and select it. After doing that, a window will pop up you can view your forgotten password . But be prepared to provide admin details, as it may be required.

Option 4: View Wi-Fi Password on iPhone, iPad

After reading the article so far, you may have already gotten the answer to your question “ I have lost my Wi-Fi password, how can I recover it ?”. Unfortunately none of these procedures allow you to see WiFi passwords on iPhone .  IOS devices are in fact designed to automatically save passwords so that you don’t have to remember all the individual passwords. But it is not easy to retrieve and view them.

The best way to view Wi-Fi passwords on iPhone and iPad is to use a professional iOS password finder program that can access wireless network passwords. One such program is 4uKey Password Manager and it is a great tool for finding passwords on iPhone and iPad.  Here is the detailed guide to recover lost Wi-Fi password on such devices.

Step 1. Download and install the program on your PC or Mac

Step 2 : After installation start the program and connect your iPhone or iPad to the computer via USB cable

Step 3: Wait until the device is detected by the program and then click on “ START SCAN ” to start scanning

Step 4: At the end of the scan you will see a window with all the WiFi networks found and their passwords saved on the iPhone / iPad

Option 5: View Wi-Fi Password on Android

Android devices are popular all over the world for being more usable; Unfortunately, recovering Wi-Fi password on Android is not easy. The best way to recover lost Wi-Fi password on Android is to root the device, but for this you will need to use an app that can root the device (which is not always feasible). After obtaining root permissions on your Android device, you can install applications that can recover forgotten wifi passwords via your Android phone.

If you don’t want to root your phone , here is an alternative (but quite complex) method that involves the use of ADB drivers and the use of commands from Windows.

Step 1: It is basically that the device recognizes you as a developer. In this you will have access to a lot of sensitive information. Then, go to Settings , scroll down and tap “ About Phone “. Scroll down again and tap ” Build number “. You have to tap it 5 or 6 times and then a message will appear on the screen saying “You are now a developer “.

Step 2 : Turn on “ Debug ” and go back to “ Settings ” to turn on the switch next to “ Android / USB Debugging “. Connect the device to the computer.

Step 3: You will now need to install the ADB drivers. Go to your computer and download the driver, then install it. Then open the PowerShell to be able to send commands from the computer on the Android device.

Check that the connection is made correctly and by entering the command adb devices you should see the name of the connected device.
Step 4 : Now, in the command window, type “adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf c: /wpa_supplicant.conf”. If you do, the file will be transferred from your mobile to your PC. Step 5: Now, open the file using Notepad and you will recover the lost Wi-Fi password.
