How to Recover Lost Photos from Gallery on Android

Every second smartphone owner stores a hundred or two photos in the device’s memory. And then one day they disappear for one reason or another. Is it possible to restore photos dear to memory? Let’s figure it out.

Reasons why files disappear from the Gallery

Photos can disappear from the Gallery for a variety of reasons. Most often, the following problems are to blame:

  • System failure;
  • Software update;
  • Virus;
  • Formatting or damage to the memory card;
  • Erroneous deletion.

How to Recover Files from Gallery

We’ve sorted out the reasons – now it’s time for recovery. There are several ways, and in the vast majority of cases they help solve the problem.

Restart your smartphone

The most banal, but no less effective way to solve most problems, one way or another related to a system failure. To do this, just hold down the power button or select the appropriate command on the screen.

Restore from Recycle Bin

If the user accidentally deleted files, they can still be restored. Depending on the model, open the “Recycle Bin” or “Deleted Objects” album, select the desired file and tap the restore button.

Reconnecting the microSD card

If the contents of the Gallery were stored on an SD card, you should try removing it from the smartphone and inserting it back. After that, the phone will rescan the storage and return the missing photos to their place.

Downloading files from cloud storage

If your Gallery is synchronized with any cloud storage, such as Google Photos, then this means that all the photos you take are duplicated there. Therefore, to restore deleted photos, go to Google Photos, select the appropriate picture and click the Download button

Clearing the Gallery cache

This method helps if the problem is in the Gallery itself. To do this, you need to do the following:

  • In “Settings”, go to the “Applications” tab and find “Gallery” in the lists;
  • Tap the “Clear cache” button and confirm your choice.

After that, all that remains is to reopen the Gallery and check if it works without errors. By the way, here you can also delete the latest updates of the application itself to avoid version conflicts.

Removing .nomedia files

The .nomedia format is designed to “hide” different types of media files. And sometimes it can “hide” the contents of the “Gallery”. In this case, the algorithm will be as follows:

  • Download, install and launch any file manager on your phone;
  • Open the folder where all the photos are contained;
  • In the lists, find the nomedia file and delete it;
  • Restart your smartphone.

These manipulations should return images that were not previously displayed in the Gallery.

Recovery via third-party software

If the above options do not work, then you should try specialized software, for example Tenorshare UltData . This utility effectively restores not only deleted photos and videos, but also contacts, call history and messages in messengers. To do this, you need to:

  • Install the UltData application on your device;
  • Run the program and issue the required permission;
  • On the main screen, tap the “Photos” icon and grant access to all files;
  • The utility will completely scan the smartphone and show the results found.

All that remains is to select the required files and restore them by pressing the appropriate button.
