How to pixelate a part of a photo that you send from WhatsApp

If you want to preserve the privacy of a person or protect your data in a document, from the version of WhatsApp for iPhone it is already possible to pixelate a section of the photo before sending it.

It is difficult to find a person on the street who does not carry a camera, or rather, a mobile phone with cameras. Hence, the privacy of each has been diminished and new tools are used to maintain it.

It was possible before to appear in other people’s photographs while you were walking down a street, but now the probability of this happening is even higher. It does not have to be negative but in certain circumstances, when minors, personal data appear in a document or people in demonstrations , the images are beginning to be pixelated before sharing them.

In Spain, for example, the law for the protection of minors is very strict in this regard. If you take a photo and a child appears in it that you do not know and is not important to the image, before sending it it would be good to pixelate his face, preserve his privacy. If you have an iPhone, it is no longer necessary to use a third application to send the pixelated image by WhatsApp , (on Android there are other options) we explain how.

Functions that WhatsApp should copy from Telegram, Signal and other messaging apps

WhatsApp has many functions, but it lacks some interesting options that we find in other messaging apps. These are some that you could copy.

See the list

WhatsApp has an option to pixelate a small part of an image before sending it to any of your contacts. This function, which is currently exclusive to iOS , has become very fashionable on social networks with the increase in demonstrations and protests in Hong Kong, the United States or Spain . The Signal app was one of the first to apply it.

This is as simple as entering one of the many WhatsApp chats, the one where you have a conversation with the person you want to send the image to. Proceed to send a photo as you always do , choosing from the phone gallery or using the camera to take it at the moment.

Before sending it, you will see that WhatsApp has a previous screen where it offers editing tools. Click on the pencil and look at the end of the color bar that appears, you are interested in the section in which large pixels are seen.

This tool is responsible for enlarging the pixels of the area you select to distort that section and make it difficult to identify. When you are happy with the result, just click on the send button.

If you don’t have an iPhone and you can’t use the pixelate option, you can always use the rest of the colors in this tool to paint over that section and cover it up, it’s another possibility to hide faces or data.
