How to permanently delete a Twitter/X profile

Even if you’ve been using X for many years (although most of us still call it Twitter ), you may have ended up getting tired of the social network.

There are those who, when they no longer want to use a social network, simply do not log in to the account again, letting it simply die. But if you want to take better care of your privacy, the ideal thing is to delete your profile so that it is no longer available on the social network. This way you will ensure that no one can log in again.

Before deleting your Twitter profile, you should keep in mind that there are two options you can carry out with your account: deactivate it or delete it . If you deactivate your account, even if neither you nor other users can access it, the profile will still exist, so that if you regret having left the social network in the next 30 days you will have the option of recovering it. On the other hand, if you decide to delete your account, it will disappear permanently, and if you want to return to X, the only thing you can do is create a new account and start over from the beginning.

So, the first decision you need to make is whether you want to permanently delete your account or not . And once you are clear about what you want to do with your profile , it is time to decide the steps to follow for one option or another.

Deactivate your Twitter account / X

The procedure to deactivate your Twitter / X account is quite simple. The thing is that you will have to explore the platform’s menus, something that we do not usually do often and therefore we may feel somewhat lost. But if you have decided that you are tired of the social network, you will simply have to follow these steps:

  1. On your computer or mobile, go to your Twitter / X profile.
  2. Tap the More icon , which appears next to three ellipses.
  3. In the drop-down menu that appears, go to Settings & Privacy .
  4. Go to the Your Account tab .
  5. Click Deactivate your account .
  6. Read all the information about what this entails and, if you are sure, click Deactivate .
  7. Enter your password .
  8. To confirm, click Deactivate account .

Remember that by following these steps you will have deactivated your account, but not deleted it permanently. Therefore, if in the next 30 days you realize that you have changed your mind and want to return to Twitter, you can do so easily, and you will have your username and all your list of followers and followed back.

To delete your Twitter account forever, you simply have to deactivate it and wait 30 days without logging back in . This way, you will be sending the message to the platform that you have no intention of recovering your account, and after the first month it will be completely deleted.

In order for your account to be permanently deleted, it is also important that you take into account whether you have given permission to third-party applications to access your Twitter / X account. In that case, it could be that said application is accessing your account and preventing it from being permanently deleted, so we recommend that you revoke all permissions in this regard.
